Lead Organizer

Based in Southern California

 

Overview
This position is to support two Local Unions; UAW Local 872 represents graduate student workers at the University of Southern California and UAW Local 2478 represents academic workers at the California Institute of Technology. We are seeking a Lead Organizer to drive our work to build strong and self-sustaining local unions.

Job Duties 

• Work with leaders and field staff to develop and execute short- and long-term organizing plans in alignment with Local priorities outlined by the respective Local’s organizing committee and the executive board.
• Mentor high-level leaders and field staff in the development of departmental, divisional, and new high-level leaders.
• Support the maintenance of connections with allied groups outside of the Local, including Locals, campaigns, and Los Angeles political groups.
• Connect members and leaders to union resources and support systems.
• Coordinate data needs with Data Organizer (872) or Sergeant-at-Arms (2478).
• Additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements 

• Highly organized, able to prioritize tasks, and consistently and independently follow through.
• Responsive and communicative through email and text.
• Collaborative with other organizers.
• At least two years of experience with member-to-member labor organizing and/or organizational communication; other relevant experience will be considered.
• Ability to work on evenings and weekends when needed.
• Ability to work weekly in person at University of Southern California (University Park and Lincoln Heights) and California Institute of Technology (Pasadena) campus, and occasionally at other sites in Los Angeles (e.g., UAW Region 6 office in Pico Rivera, satellite campuses).
• Knowledge of Google Workspace and Zoom.
• We are unable to sponsor a visa at this time. 

Pay

• Annual salary is $90,000 for 1 FTE. (.5 FTE for Local 872 and .5 FTE for Local 2478)
• Paid vacation, sick days, and holidays.
