Political Organizer

Based in Seattle, WA

 

The Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO (WSLC) is seeking a skilled and driven Political Organizer to support the implementation of its statewide political and strategic campaigns program. Working under the direction of the Political & Strategic Campaigns Director, this position plays a key role in executing field operations, supporting political processes, and mobilizing union members and allies to advance worker-centered initiatives, policies, and candidates. This role is focused on building durable organizing infrastructure, strengthening affiliate engagement, and expanding the reach and effectiveness of WSLC’s political and strategic campaigns work across Washington state. The ideal candidate brings campaign experience, strong organizing and data skills, and a deep commitment to building worker power through independent political action.

Key Responsibilities
Political Program & Field Execution

  • Support implementation of WSLC’s statewide political programs and strategic campaigns under the direction of the Political & Strategic Campaigns Director
  • Execute field activities, including walks, phone banks, rallies, and other actions
  • Assist in advancing coordinated political and issue-based campaigns

Affiliate Member & Volunteer Engagement

  • Recruit, coordinate, and mobilize volunteers, union members, and affiliate participation
  • Build and maintain relationships with affiliates to increase engagement in WSLC political programs and strategic campaigns
  • Support affiliate member participation in electoral and issue-based organizing

Political & Program Support

  • Support WSLC political processes, including endorsements, candidate engagement, and trainings
  • Provide logistical and organizing support for political education and leadership development programs
  • Collaborate with affiliates and partners to advance shared political goals

Data & Field Operations

  • Utilize voter file and campaign tools to support outreach and tracking efforts
  • Pull lists, cut turf, and track field metrics
  • Maintain voter file and volunteer data systems
  • Support data-driven reporting and program needs

Coalitions & Partnerships

  • Support relationships with affiliate organizations, community organizations, and coalition partners
  • Participate in coordinated efforts that advance shared political priorities for working people
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support WSLC’s political programs in a fast-paced, evolving environment

Qualifications

  • At least three campaign cycles of experience in political, union, or community-based campaigns
  • Experience using voter file systems (e.g., VAN/VoteBuilder), including pulling lists and cutting turf
  • Demonstrated success recruiting and mobilizing volunteers or members
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities with shifting timelines
  • Alignment with WSLC’s role as an independent political voice advancing the interests of working people
  • Valid Washington State drivers license, reliable access to a vehicle, and ability to travel throughout Washington state

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong data skills, including database management and data visualization
  • Working knowledge of Washington’s labor movement and political landscape
  • Experience supporting volunteer or member leadership development for political and electoral engagement

Terms of Employment
The Political Organizer is part of the administrative staff of the WSLC and covered by the collective bargaining agreement with Office and Professional Employees International Union, Local 8 (OPEIU 8). The position includes:

Salary Range: $90,000 – $97,000 per year (commensurate with experience)

This is a full-time, salaried, statewide position. Irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, are required based on organizational needs.
