Field Organizer

Based in Ithaca, NY

 

UE seeks an experienced Field Organizer to assist in organizing campaigns across the country. The position involves organizing new workplaces, developing workplace leadership, and participating in organizing new workplaces in various industries. Under direction of an experienced lead organizer or staff coordinator, the successful applicant will find work on organizing campaigns, as well as work towards securing first contracts in newly organized workplaces. 

Responsibilities:

• Conduct worker outreach to generate organizing campaigns in identified workplaces
• Lead one-on-one and group meetings with workers
• Identify and develop workplace leaders
• Motivate workers to take action
• Build union organizing committees capable of winning union recognition
• Maintain accurate information on worksite site and campaign activities
• With direction develop campaign literature
• Work on mobilization campaigns to win first union contracts

Requirements:

• Previous worker organizing experience
• Bilingual Spanish/English preferred but not required
• Willingness to travel for extended periods
• Ability to work independently
• Willingness to work long hours, including nights and weekends
• A working vehicle and a valid driver’s license
• Basic computer and writing skills
• A strong commitment to social justice.

Salary for this position begins at $66,020.22. Benefits include health plan, retirement plan, and a substantial car allowance.
