Benefits Representative

Based in New York City, NY

 

Title: Benefits Representative
Unit: Security Benefits Fund Department
Salary Range: $52,000 to $57,000
Number of Positions: 1 (in-person)

General Description:
The candidate must be self-motivated, must have the ability to manage diverse tasks, often without direct supervision.  The candidate must also possess strong organizational skills, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills and the candidate must also be able to collaborate with all staff to maintain high-quality standards.

Member Services

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for members/employee inquiries regarding benefits, providing information and resolving complaints.
  • Answers incoming telephone calls, determines purpose of calls, and resolves inquiries.
  • Responds to customer inquiries via phone and email, ensuring timely and accurate resolution.
  • Works with Legal services as needed.
  • Welcomes on-site visitors, determines nature of business, and resolves inquiries, requests, and/or announces visitors to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain accurate records of members participation, personal data, and ensure timely processing of all benefits transactions.
  • Process enrollments, changes, and terminations in the benefits systems.
  • Educate members/employees on available benefits options, eligibility, and enrollment processes.
  • Assist members/employees with navigating benefits portals, filing claims, and resolving benefits issues.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours when needed.

Claims Processing
Upon demonstrating proven proficiency in Member Services duties, responsibilities will expand to include processing claims, making adjustments, and managing enrollment.

  • Review and process members claims for benefits such as health insurance, life insurance, disability and other programs
  • Verify claims accuracy and completeness, ensuring that required documentation is provided and correct.
  • Enter claims data into the system and track the progress of claims until resolution.
  • Communicate with members regarding the status of their claims and provide support in navigating the claims process.
  • Liaise with insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and medical providers to resolve any issues or discrepancies.
  • Ensure claims are processed within the appropriate timeframe and in compliance with organization policies and external regulations.

Education & Experience

  • Minimal, Collegiate associate degree or equivalent
  • Knowledge of NYC health benefit plans or equivalent a plus
  • Claims Processing experience preferred.
  • Customer service with multi-line phone is preferred
  • Experience in a teamwork environment a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite products a must
  • Adaptability to changes in technological needs.
