Overview
The following shall constitute the primary duties and responsibilities of this position. It is by no means intended to represent all duties and responsibilities attributed to this position.
General Duties & Responsibilities
The Communications Specialist is responsible for helping to develop and implement strategic communications campaigns and projects in support of the organization’s priorities.
- Oversee end-to-end video production, including concept development, on-site filming, audio capture, post-production editing, and final delivery optimized for web, social media, and broadcast platforms.
- The candidate should have proven experience drafting and editing speeches tailored to diverse audiences and leadership voices.
- Provide broad administrative and logistical support to the Communications Department.
- Writing and editing content for print and digital mediums.
- Updating and posting content to SMART websites.
- Monitoring relevant social media, creating and posting SMART social media content.
- Media monitoring and press list building.
- Some working knowledge of graphic design concepts and best practices, with the ability to create visually compelling materials that align with organizational branding standards.
- Position requires flexibility and availability for travel, which may be frequent or extensive during peak periods.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assisting with the day-to-day operations and logistics of the Communications department.
- Helping coordinate and prepare for events and meetings, including logistics and preparation of materials.
- Maintain effective filing systems.
- Managing calendars, schedules, and travel arrangements.
- Assisting with the submission of expenses and processing of invoices.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Mandatory Skill Set
The following shall constitute the mandatory skill set for the position of SMART, Communications Specialist and by no means is intended to represent all skills or skill levels obtainable or desirable for holding this position. This list is simply a point from which to build.
- Medium to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Suite software and basic computer skills.
- Medium to advanced knowledge of Adobe Premiere and graphic design software.
- Functional experience and working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint software.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or other related fields
- Effective Communication skills
- Strong Writing Skills
- Able to build and maintain relationships with internal and external workforce
- Public Relations skills (preferred)
- Project Management Skills (preferred)
- Labor Union experience (preferred)
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the following criterion must be met:
- Use of computer keyboard and peripheral office equipment.
- Sitting/standing for long periods and ability to travel by various means, such as train, plane, and automobile.
Salary Range: $80,000 – $110,000 annually
