Salary Range: $72,500.00 – $85,000.00
Experience Required Minimum: 1 – 2 years in finance, accounting or administrative support
Work Arrangement: In-person, In office. Temporary until December 31, 2026

Job Summary:
The Financial Analyst will support the Finance & Administration Department by assisting the Financial Analyst Manager with day-to-day financial operations, reporting activities, and departmental coordination.

This full-time, on-site role is designed for a detail-oriented professional who is interested in growing within labor union or nonprofit financial management. The position supports operational efficiency by enabling the Financial Analyst Manager to focus on higher-level responsibilities including financial strategy, audit readiness, training, and data quality oversight.

The Financial Analyst plays an important role in maintaining financial data integrity, supporting compliance reporting, and ensuring timely preparation of operational and grant-related financial documentation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Run and export recurring and ad hoc financial reports from QuickBooks and internal systems.
  • Format, prepare, and organize monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Assist with collecting budget submissions from multiple departments.
  • Track, organize, and maintain department financial reports and supporting documentation.
  • Support financial documentation preparation for grant reporting in coordination with the DSI team.
  • Compile, verify, and cross-check financial data with IRS Form 990, California Form 199, and year-end audit reports for the organization and associated trust accounts.
  • Maintain fixed asset records for multiple offices and support reconciliation activities.
  • Maintain reporting schedules, shared calendars, and structured electronic filing systems.
  • Assist with financial tracking and reporting for multiple grants, ensuring compliance with applicable reporting requirements.
  • Support external audit requests by organizing and preparing financial documentation as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • 1–2 years of experience in accounting, finance, or business administration.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, formatting, filtering, and pivot tables.
  • Familiarity with QuickBooks Online or comparable accounting systems.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and task follow-through.
  • Ability to work full-time on-site in San Diego, CA.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in nonprofit, labor union, or grant-funded environments.
  • Bilingual ability in Spanish, Vietnamese, or another language is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of audit processes, nonprofit reporting, or IRS Form 990 requirements.
  • Enrollment in or completion of a degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.

Campaign and Outreach Activities 

  • As part of the organization’s mission-driven work, employees in this classification may occasionally participate in campaign-related activities during critical organizational periods, including elections, legislative campaigns, blitz initiatives, or other public programs supported by UDW.
  • These activities may include, but are not limited to, house visits, phone banking, or other direct outreach efforts.
  • Participation will be scheduled with reasonable advance notice and in accordance with applicable labor agreements. Employees will remain within the geographic region of their home office.
  • Employees may also be offered the opportunity to volunteer for campaign-related activities outside their home base location, depending on campaign operational needs.
