Overview: 
NYSUT is seeking a highly skilled and hands-on AWS/Azure Cloud Engineer to design, secure, and optimize our multi-cloud infrastructure. This role will be engaged in both greenfield initiatives and brownfield migrations, with a focus on infrastructure, networking, and automation. You will play a key role in modernizing our IT environment, driving governance, and ensuring secure, scalable, and high-availability solutions. 

This is an individual contributor role within a collaborative IT department, ideal for a cloud professional with experience building new environments and optimizing existing systems. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Design, implement, and manage multi-region high availability cloud architectures. 
  • Gather and analyze metrics from operating systems as well as applications to assist in performance tuning and fault finding. 
  • Lead migration projects, integrating on-premises and legacy systems into cloud infrastructure. 
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC). 
  • Deploy and manage serverless architectures (e.g., AWS Lambda, Azure Functions). 
  • Implement cloud monitoring and observability solutions (CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Application 
  • Insights, etc.). 
  • Govern cloud policies, enforce standards, and ensure environments remain secure, compliant, and cost effective. 
  • Assist with improving services through rigorous testing and release procedures. 
  • Participate in system design consulting, platform management, and capacity planning. 
  • Create sustainable systems and services through automation and uplifts. 
  • Balance feature development speed and reliability with well-defined service-level objectives. 
  • Design and support cloud networking, identity and access management, and security best practices. 
  • Document architecture decisions, automation workflows, and operational procedures. 
  • Collaborate to align strategies and support business goals. 
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship in cloud best practices. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience. 
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Azure and AWS cloud architecture and operations. 
  • Strong knowledge of infrastructure, networking, and hybrid cloud environments. 
  • Expertise with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, ARM, CloudFormation). 
  • Experience with containerization (Kubernetes, AKS, ECS, Docker), .NET, Postgress, serverless architectures and cloud automation, Content Management System and tooling. 
  • Proficiency with monitoring and observability tools (Datadog, Prometheus, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor). 
  • Strong background in cloud governance, security, compliance, and cost management (FinOps). 
  • Scripting experience in Python, PowerShell, or similar. 
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and teamwork skills. 
  • Azure or AWS Solutions Architect certification strongly preferred. 
  • Experience in unionized environments or familiarity with union values is a plus.
