Overview
NYSUT is seeking an experienced, versatile graphic designer to join our communications team. This on site position requires a creative professional who can seamlessly move between traditional print design, modern digital content creation, and video production. The ideal candidate will design everything from publications and newsletters to social media graphics, infographics, and video content—all while maintaining brand consistency across platforms. You'll work collaboratively with teams across the organization to conceptualize and execute design projects that support NYSUT's communication and advocacy goals.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design & production of NYSUT publications, newsletters, mailers, information sheets, brochures, digital graphics, emails, and other communications media.
  • Conceptualize and design campaign elements such as core branding materials, publications, and media communications.
  • Collaborate across departments and locals regarding branding, marketing, content, and the creation of different forms of media.
  • Translate user needs and branding strategies into design elements.
  • Develop concepts and layouts, design briefs and creative approaches.
  • Research and create branding elements such as logos, illustrations, icons and visual images for NYSUT's core brand and campaign brands.
  • Work on core branding and production of branded items such as signage, business cards, and other core brand collateral materials.
  • Create original graphic initiatives in web and other electronic formats, print publications, and in multimedia campaigns.
  • Assist digital communications teams with graphic needs for digital advertising and social media.
  • Work with other team members to plan, shoot, edit and produce video content for digital and social media platforms.
  • Assist NYSUT and outside clients with printing project planning and execution.
  • Select and organize all design elements (i.e. font, colors, etc.).
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the use of current relevant technology, software and printing procedures.
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, archiving, and quality control of digital files.
  • Potential long or irregular hours, weekend hours, and travel.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in professional graphic design.
  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual arts, or a related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in graphic design software, specifically the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Video editing experience with Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, or similar software.
  • Demonstrated understanding of digital and print design best practices.
  • Experience with layout and production of print and digital editorial materials.
  • Experience creating content for social media platforms.
  • Strong understanding of design principles, branding best practices, typography, and color theory.
  • Experience with print production and knowledge of printing processes.
  • Experience working with photographs to enhance and modify them as needed for various applications.
  • Portfolio demonstrating range across print, digital, and video projects.
  • Ability to conceptualize and execute creative ideas.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality control.
  • Willing to travel and occasionally work irregular hours and weekends if needed.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
