Base Salary: $149,647 to $199,499. Actual salary will be determined based on skills and experience.

Location: Washington, DC

The National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU) is the nation’s largest independent union of federal employees, representing employees in 38 federal agencies and departments. NTEU is the voice of the federal workforce on Capitol Hill, in the courts, at bargaining tables, and in the media. We fight for fair pay and benefits, improved working conditions, and other issues that affect the working lives of federal employees.

There is a vacancy in the Headquarters Office in Washington, DC for a Legislative Representative. The Legislative Representative lobbies for legislation that protects worker rights and benefits the labor force, as educates members about their rights, changes in labor laws, and strategies for effective communication with management. In doing so, the Legislative Representative assists NTEU in continuing to fulfill its mission:

To organize federal employees to work together to ensure that every federal employee is treated with dignity and respect

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Analyze legislation and recommend legislative strategies and creative legislative solutions to address issues impacting NTEU members
  • Write Congressional testimony, letters and memos
  • Represent NTEU in meetings with Senators, Representatives and their staff
  • Provide information to NTEU members on legislative issues.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree; graduate/law degree preferred.
  • At least five years of legislative experience from working on Capitol Hill or lobbying Congress
  • Thorough knowledge of the legislative process
  • Strong understanding of the civil service and labor issues.
  • Some travel is required, as well as attendance at events outside of regularly scheduled work hours
