Background:
The Department of Corporate Affairs directs LIUNA’s responsible investment program. Responsible investment ensures that LIUNA members’ pension benefits are invested on their behalf in a way that creates strong investment returns, a safe and secure retirement, and collateral benefits like union jobs. The Department maintains professional relationships with pension fund staff and trustees, investment consultants, real estate, private equity and infrastructure managers, corporations, and financial analysts. 

The Department acts as an internal resource for LIUNA affiliates and develops company analysis, monitors corporate transactions, and provides construction sector research and strategy for influencing the financial sponsors of construction projects. The Department advocates for high road labor standards and responsible contractor policies to create quality construction careers and reduce risk for project investors. 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
The Director of Corporate Affairs shall:

  1. Identify investment managers, portfolio managers, investment consultants, and financial analysts that have current or potential relationships with LIUNA pension funds, construction project owners, or contractors. 
  2. Analyze the current or potential impacts these firms have on LIUNA members.
  3. Develop relationships with key people in the above areas and make positive, organized and professional presentations to such people and organizations about LIUNA’s mission, values, and expectations around responsible investment.
  4. Create and share information with LIUNA pension fund trustees and investment consultants regarding responsible investment best practices. 
  5. Provide critical and strategic research and financial analysis reports to LIUNA’s elected leaders and staff on key industry sectors that impact LIUNA’s membership.
  6. Have knowledge of capital stewardship and fiduciary issues and be able to make presentations on those subjects. 
  7. Assist LIUNA affiliates with project research and identification of key financial partners driving decision making on construction projects in their local area. 
  8. Have knowledge and experience in researching public and private corporations and the role of capital strategies in strategic growth campaigns. 

Educational Background and Experience:

  • BA or BS degree. Demonstrated ability to make professional presentations and work both independently and in a team. 
  • At least ten years’ relevant work experience required. 

Additional qualifications include: Strong commitment to the labor movement and desire to assist workers in struggles to improve the conditions of their working lives; excellent interpersonal, writing and communication skills; willingness to work long or irregular hours when needed to meet deadlines. 

The position is located in Washington, D.C.
