Organization: California Common Good brings together community groups and labor unions committed to organizing growth, power building, and a long-term agenda for economic, racial, climate and social justice. CCG was launched in January 2023 and is anchored by ACCE (Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment), AFSCME Local 3299 and United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA). Our organizational partners have a shared analysis that, among other things, recognizes that the current political economy is best serving the wealthy and leaving the rest of us behind and that California needs to put the full force of its economic power to work ensuring that our communities are liveable, affordable, sustainable and healthy.
Under Trump, the billionaires are quickly consolidating their power. They are waging war on working people and our communities - destroying our democracy, dismantling our public infrastructure and weaponizing our government against us - scapegoating and attacking immigrants and communities of color to keep us in fear and divide us. The People over Billionaires organizing project is focused on getting our people and state in motion against the billionaire first agenda and towards a people first agenda - pushing back against the corporate billionaires enabling authoritarianism through defensive campaigns that protect our community and offensive campaigns against the corporate oligarchs to hold them accountable drive up the cost of compliance and move defections that secure wins for our people.
Position: The Lead Organizer will be responsible for supporting core partners in engaging in the People Over Billionaires campaign. This will include managing relationships with the staff of organizational partners to support them in their organizing around People over Billionaires - activating their members into action campaigns against the billionaires and developing base building campaigns. In addition, the lead will be responsible for driving campaign coordination for one or more of the corporate billionaire targets including creating campaign plans and metrics, coordinating campaign efforts with partner organizations, developing campaign materials and training tools for organization staff, and training community and member leaders. The lead will also be responsible for managing shared calendar.
Location: This position can be based in any of ACCE offices (one of the primary anchors for the campaign) - Sacramento, Richmond, Oakland, Los Angeles, or San Diego.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Drive organizing work with CCG organizational partners, their staff and leaders
- Develop and oversee the implementation of a campaign strategy, plans and metrics for campaigns focused on key billionaire targets
- Coordinate and run campaign meetings, public actions and events
- Develop and run trainings for staff and community leaders on the People Over Billionaires campaign
- Develop and write necessary internal and external memos and 1-pgrs as needed for the campaign
- Collaborate with other members of the team (research, communications, etc) to create and implement other elements of the campaign - email / text / digital
- Support leadership of the campaign by helping to manage relationships with state and some national partners
- Manage campaign calendars and tracking tools
- Assist with facilitation and planning of key campaign meetings and planning strategy
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5-years community or labor organizing experience
- Experience training and developing leaders to take on substantial organizing responsibilities
- Experience in coalition-based work
- Experience developing and running large, multi-month, strategic campaigns
- Excellent project management skills, results focused, and well organized.
- Strong understanding of issues facing low-income BIPOC and immigrant communities
- Ability to work well with diverse groups and populations
- Able to work independently and drive projects and programs to completion in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
- Familiarity with, and comfortability working with: GoogleSheets, CRM’s, online campaign tools and social media admin panels
- Excellent communication skills.
Bilingual Spanish/English, preferred but not required
Wages and Benefits:
CCG utilizes a progressive salary scale that determines pay based on level of responsibility and years of experience. Salary is non-negotiable but does include annual COLA increases as well as annual anniversary increases. The salary range for this position is from $83,788 – $102,636, based on years of experience. The position is funded through our fiscal sponsor, Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment (ACCE) and has a generous benefits package that includes fully covered health care, dental, and life insurance, as well as a 401K employer match and a minimum of 3 weeks’ accruable paid time off in year 1.
