Division Director, Laundry & Other Industries

The Western States Regional Joint Board of Workers United-SEIU is a growing, progressive union of 8,000 workers at warehouses, industrial laundries, and other jobs in California, Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico.

Job Title: Division Director, Laundry & Other Industries
Location: Los Angeles or Sacramento (some moving expenses may be reimbursed)
Salary Range: $82,000 – $97,000, plus car allowance equal to $11,440, paid weekly

The Division Director for Laundry & Other Industries manages a team of Lead Organizers and Organizers, coordinates with rank-and-file Local union officers, and engages employers in California, Arizona, and New Mexico, in order to strengthen the movement of organized workers in these industries building power and winning justice for all working people.

Responsibilities include:

• Supervise a team of Organizers and Lead Organizers, driving the Division to meet goals to increase membership, recruit & train member leaders, build political power, and win fights inside and outside the workplace.
• Coordinate strategic plans with Local union officers in the Division, and facilitate coordination between Local leaders.
• Engage with management at major employers, including by leading bargaining and handling high-level disputes.
• Assist regional leadership to develop and carry out union-wide events and initiatives. Implement regional union programs with Division staff and Locals.
• Frequent travel and irregular hours.

Qualifications: 

• 5 years or more experience working with labor unions.
• Experience with union organizing (external and/or internal).
• Experience with collective bargaining and labor-management relations.
• Experience supervising staff.
• Strong work ethic, detail-oriented, with a passion for social justice.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a team.
• Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively.
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally by email, phone, and in person.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid U.S. driver’s license.

Language: Bilingual Spanish & English is preferred but not required.

Compensation & Benefits: Starting salary range for this position is $82,000 – $97,000, plus weekly automobile allowance equivalent to $11,440 annually, with excellent benefits including fully employer-paid family health, dental, and vision insurance; a generous paid time off package; fully employer-paid pension retirement plan; life insurance; and other benefits.
