USW is seeking a motivated Administrative Assistant to provide the Legislative Department with administrative support including correspondence, logistics, record keeping, and/or special projects as needed. This career supports three technical staff as they advocate for the union’s policy positions and work to improve the lives of all working people. The position requires flexibility, anticipating the flow and needs of co-workers and taking appropriate initiative.
This bargaining unit position includes a generous benefits package including a defined benefit pension, 401(k), medical, dental, and vision coverage. Collectively bargained pay bands start at $50,529 and top out at $65,697, experience will be factored into initial pay band placement.
Responsibilities/Qualifications:
- Serve as primary administrative assistant to the department head, USW’s Legislative Director, by performing tasks such as managing their calendar, scheduling meetings, and coordinating domestic and international travel arrangements.
- Provide support to the Assistant Legislative Director and legislative representatives as needed.
- Optimize workflow management, meet deadlines, and prevent work slowdowns by building and maintaining a close and highly responsive relationship with USW legislative staff.
- Serve as office manager, including tasks such us, but not limited to: preparing for weekly office meetings and various public-facing events; greeting guests to the office and field calls into the office; managing the distribution of USW correspondence to Capitol Hill and Government agencies.
- Effectively complete brief routine office maintenance tasks such as collect, sort and prepare mail, monitor and replenish office supplies and ensuring office presents professionally.
- Be a self-starter with good organizational and planning skills to enable management of multiple priorities as well as keeping track of and completion of projects delegated by USW staff.
- Copy files, and maintain records and documents.
- Be proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of products
- A passion for the labor movement and ensuring all workers have access to a good job, with good pay, and a proper work-life balance is vital.
