About California Calls
At California Calls, we believe we can reclaim the California Dream of equality, opportunity, and prosperity for all Californians. California Calls (501c3) and its sister organization California Calls Action Fund (501c4) is a powerful alliance of 30 local community-based organizations spanning urban, rural, and suburban counties across the state. We engage, educate, and motivate new and infrequent voters, including young people, communities of color, and poor and working-class neighborhoods to ensure who votes in California reflects who lives in California. Through our bottom-up approach, we organize people most impacted by decades of disinvestment, deteriorating public services, mass incarceration, and growing inequality to support systemic, progressive policy solutions.
With headquarters in Los Angeles, remote staff across California, and partner organizations anchored in 14 counties, we advance state-based structural battles that strengthen democracy, fully fund schools, affordable housing, and local services, and expand racial, gender, and economic justice. We strengthen the capacity and build collaborations with organizations across the state to build a strong movement capable of winning structural change.
The Opportunity: California Calls Organizing Coordinator
We build a movement of Californians voting and acting together to win transformational policy changes statewide and locally. Our approach, Integrated Voter Engagement, engages in year-round organizing of the voters who are neglected by traditional campaigns – low-income communities, communities of color, young voters, and immigrants – to build relationships, trust, and a growing movement of people to win structural solutions to poverty, disinvestment, and staggering inequality.
We are seeking an Organizing Coordinator to help develop and implement California Calls’ year-round civic engagement and organizing programs that inspire our community to vote and get involved in the growing We Are California movement. Working with an incredible team of organizers, policy experts, communicators, coalition builders, and ally organizations, you will implement winning organizing programs that shift the California landscape. You will also support the training and capacity program for organizers of our anchors and partners to strengthen their skills to effectively inspire voters to join our movement, take action, and vote.
Specifically, this means:
Organizing Programs
- Support the planning and implementation of field and organizing programs to reach voters by phone, door-to-door, and online.
- Support Anchor organizations with the development and implementation of short and long-term civic-engagement, organizing, and power-building plans.
- Assist with data-driven targeting, analysis, and evaluation of our voter engagement work using PDI and Action Network.
- Assist with integrated field and communications programs to follow up with supporters identified on the phones and doors and inspire them to take action for state and local campaigns.
Capacity Building
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with anchors, partners, and allies.
- Develop and produce political education curricula and materials related to voter engagement, issue campaigns, and organizing.
- Work with California Calls’ Organizing, Data, Policy, and Communications teams to increase our Anchors’ organizing, narrative, and data management skills.
- Support and position California Calls staff and leaders as experts in the work we do.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has at least 3-5 years of voter engagement or organizing experience.
- Has a strong commitment to social, racial, gender, and economic justice and an understanding of the needs of low-income communities in California.
- Can simultaneously manage multiple projects while maintaining a firm grasp of individual project details and meeting deadlines.
- Is a self-starter with demonstrated sound judgment, critical thinking, flexibility, resourcefulness, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and follows projects through to completion.
- Has strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work collaboratively with others in a team environment and has experience wrangling stakeholders to secure the necessary input, buy-in and approvals.
- Can build, manage and nurture positive and productive relationships with partners.
- Has experience in communicating complex issues to varied audiences, including everyday people.
- Familiarity with California’s key issues and political landscape is preferred.
