About the AFL For over 100 years, unions across Alberta have come together under the Alberta Federation of Labour (AFL). Today, the AFL represents 27 member unions and over 170,000 workers from a wide range of occupations across the province. Through research, advocacy, lobbying, and direct action, the AFL has played a vital role in improving working conditions, protecting human rights, and making Alberta a better place to live, work, and play.

Overview The AFL is seeking an Action Network (AN) Intern to support digital organizing and campaign workflows. This role is remote, hybrid or office based, available part-time or full-time, and requires immediate availability. The AN Intern will manage Action Network tools, build rapid-response campaigns, and collaborate with AFL Directors to support member engagement and digital advocacy.

What You’ll Do:

  • Build, manage, and optimize Action Network lists, tags, actions, forms, petitions, and event pages.
  • Create and publish email actions, petitions, and event sign-ups; maintain data integrity and list hygiene.
  • Execute rapid-response campaigns with fast turnarounds; implement deliverability and segmentation best practices.
  • Troubleshoot AN technical issues and recommend workflow improvements.
  • Coordinate with officers, directors, and communications staff to align messaging and timing.
  • Produce regular campaign reports and basic analytics to inform strategy.
  • Support collaborative remote workflows and contribute to team planning.
  • Other duties as required.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Direct, demonstrable hands-on experience using Action Network (required).
  • Strong written communication, attention to detail, and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Takes direction well, works effectively with teammates, and shows initiative.
  • Comfortable working remotely with reliable internet access.
  • Ability to handle fast turnarounds and shifting priorities.

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior experience in labour or civic organizing.
  • Prior experience with Action Network an asset
  • Familiarity with email best practices, analytics, and segmentation strategies.

Work Conditions:

  • Remote / work-from-home role; hybrid; or office based
  • Part-time or full-time options; flexible scheduling may be available.
  • Fast-paced environment with evening/weekend needs for rapid-response actions.

Compensation and Benefits:
