Financial Strategist
Research Department

Based in Detroit, MI

 

The International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) is a strong, progressive, militant union with a million active and retired members. The position of Financial Strategist provides support for the Research Department within the President’s Office. This role will act as a liaison with UAW staff and affiliates and report to the Director of the Research Department. The UAW Research Department is responsible for in-depth analyses of companies, industries, and the economy. From contract costing and COLA proposals, to identifying industry trends and policy shifts, the Department’s analyses are used to support bargaining, organizing, and policy campaigns.

Job Description & Key Duties:

  • Provide in-depth, critical analysis and interpretation of quantitative and qualitative data in support of union activities, including collective bargaining, organizing, education, communications, and legislative activities.
  • Function as an integral part of contract negotiations teams with various industries by reviewing financial and labor cost data and costing contract proposals. 
  • Research, develop and implement campaign strategies and tactics in support of key contract, organizing and policy campaigns. 
  • Examine market and industry trends in core industries, analyze the strategies of key market players, and track relevant policy and legislative developments. 
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to diverse audiences, including union leaders, workers, investors, policymakers, and the public.

Job Requirements (Education/Skills/Experience)

  • BA/BS degree or higher. CPA, CFA, MBA or equivalent experience highly desired.
  • Experience with financial analysis, accounting, and finance. 
  • Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in strategic corporate research using a wide variety of sources.
  • Experience in contract costing or similar financial analyses.
  • Ability to present and communicate detailed and complicated information effectively, orally and in writing.
  • A strong dedication to social justice and workers’ rights.
  • Proficient in quantitative analysis.
  • Willingness to travel and work occasional overtime.
  • Ability to work well and creatively under tight deadlines in a team environment and independently.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and discretion.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Salary and Benefits
This is a full-time position based at the UAW Solidarity House in Detroit, MI. In-person work and travel is required.
