The Union has approximately 450 staff in sixteen offices from Boston to Miami. 32BJ SEIU represents over 185,000 property service workers including janitors, security officers, airport workers, and food service employees in eleven states and Washington, DC. 32BJ is an affiliate of SEIU, the Service Employees International Union, which has two million members dedicated to raising industry standards and making life better for all working families and communities.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Strategic Campaign Coordinator is pivotal in achieving the District's objectives through well-coordinated and strategic campaigns. This role involves leading the development and execution of strategic campaigns, which may include securing new development agreements, fighting back against non-union employers in our 4 industries, and spearheading contract and organizing campaigns in new sectors or regions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the guidance of the District Director, the Campaign Coordinator will undertake a comprehensive range of duties to drive multiple projects to successful completion. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Strategic Campaign Development: Design and spearhead campaigns across various property service sectors, integrating diverse strategies such as field, political, communications, legal, and corporate approaches.
- Campaign Execution: Carry out campaigns targeting critical areas such as Fightbacks, New Organizing, New Development, and Contract Negotiations.
- Materials Creation: Generate materials and presentations for all stages of the campaign, including resources for members and staff, as well as internal tracking documents.
- Training Implementation: Craft and conduct training sessions for staff and member leaders on significant field campaigns.
- Staff Coaching: Mentor staff in formulating field plans and assess their training requirements.
- Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the District Director, Field Teams, and other departments (political, communications, data, research) to establish and fulfill campaign objectives.
- Work Plan Creation: Formulate a strategic work plan and calendar to achieve campaign and programmatic objectives.
- Support employer relations as necessary
- Racial Justice Commitment: Proactively pursue opportunities to promote racial equity and inclusion, contributing to the creation of an equitable and just work environment.
- Other Duties: Execute additional responsibilities as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects efficiently while adhering to deadlines.
- In-depth knowledge of member representation and campaign initiatives, bolstered by hands-on experience in field representation or organizing roles.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, complemented by adept presentation abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite with a proven track record of quickly learning and mastering new software applications.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a history of working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including union staff, and the capacity to manage relationships with key stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to drive the work including effectively coordinating with people at different levels in the organization
- Flexible work style that is suited to both collaborative settings and independent projects.
- Comfortable with embracing new technology and innovation, coupled with critical thinking skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is highly desirable.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This full-time position often requires working beyond standard business hours, including some evenings, weekends, and holidays. Based in our Boston, MA office, the role entails travel to various sites for events like marches and demonstrations. The job demands a valid driver's license, access to an insured vehicle, and the ability to transport and set up at least 15lbs of equipment, as well as navigating stairs. Participation in marches and demonstrations, lasting 3-4 hours, is expected. Occasional overnight travel to other East Coast locations may also be required.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The salary for this role is $$99,000 – $109,000 depending on experience. 32BJ provides a generous benefits package that includes a fully employer-paid medical, dental and vision plan, for full-time employees and their qualified dependents. We offer retirement benefits, including both a defined benefit pension plan and 401K. The Union currently offers a remote work policy of one remote day per week at the discretion of the manager.
