Salary Range: $80,000+

Overview 
WTU Local 6 is seeking a dedicated Grievance Specialist to protect the rights of educators and uphold collective bargaining agreements across DC Public Schools. This role blends case management, contract enforcement, and strategic advocacy, making it a vital force for equity and justice in the workplace.

Key Responsibilities 
Member Support & Advocacy 

  • Conduct confidential interviews with union members to assess grievances 
  • Lead grievance and investigatory meetings 
  • Analyze and apply contract language to identify and challenge violations 
  • File grievances and prepare documentation to support effective resolution 
  • Represent members at hearings and coach them in presenting their case 
  • Negotiate with management to resolve disputes fairly and contractually 

Collaboration & Communication 

  • Work closely with Union officers, organizers, attorneys, and member leaders 
  • Identify patterns and proactively address systemic contract issues 

Administration & Record-Keeping 

  • Maintain grievance case records and management systems 
  • Ensure compliance with all procedural and contractual deadlines 
  • Organize documentation, notes, and reports for tracking and follow-up 

Job Qualifications 

  • Experience in union or education-based labor relations 
  • Strong knowledge of CBA enforcement, grievance procedures, and education law 
  • Commitment to racial, economic, and social justice 
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in high-pressure environments 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and case management systems 
  • Willingness to train in arbitration and legal advocacy 
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel across the city 

Education & Training 
Preferred background in labor relations, education policy, public administration, or related fields.
