About SPEEA, IFPTE Local 2001
The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA), IFPTE Local 2001, is a professional aerospace labor union representing more than 17,000 engineers, technical workers, pilots and other professionals in the aerospace industry. Presently, our union represents employees at The Boeing Company and Spirit AeroSystems. Members work in Washington, Kansas, Oregon, Utah, and California.
Description of duties
- Work independently with little to no supervision representing members in the workplace
- Represent the Union in meetings and confer issues
- Support negotiating teams
- Assess, recruit and train Council Representatives (aka shop stewards) to assist members in solving problems on the job through contract enforcement and direct action
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with labor relations counterparts, elected officials, local labor leaders and community organizations
- Facilitate special and general membership meetings
- Support internal and external organizing campaigns for ongoing union membership recruitment efforts, contract renewal and the ongoing recruitment of work site leaders for projects and committees
- Welcome new members and provide in-person orientation
- Resolve conflicts while maintaining important and effective working relationships
- Conduct research, compile, interpret, analyze data and make recommendations
- Develop, implement and drive worksite and community mobilization strategies
- Serves as a liaison to other unions, labor coalitions, etc.
Minimum requirements
- At least five years’ experience in a similar role
- Knowledge of applicable labor and employment laws
- Experience preparing and presenting grievances
- Experience with internal and external organizing campaigns
- Must possess effective time management skills, including prioritizing and managing multiple tasks
- Strong public speaking skills and experience communicating union messages
- Computer proficiency with database/spreadsheet, email, internet, word processing and social media
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent listening, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work long and irregular hours and weekends as needed
- Ability to travel as needed
- Ability to pass a background check that is required to access employer property
Desirable Qualifications
- Juris Doctor degree
- Experience acting as a negotiator in bargaining
- Experience leading organizing campaigns
Note: This position is represented by Teamsters Local 763 and begins with a six-month probationary period.
