Bricklayers & Trowel Trades International Pension Fund (IPF) is currently hiring in the Washington, DC area for the position of Pre-Retirement Services Team Leader!

The IPF was founded in 1972 and is a defined benefit plan covering 92% of members of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC) throughout the U.S.; ensure the retirement security of more than 26,00 U.S. pensioners and beneficiaries. The IPF also provides benefits to over 900 pension and beneficiaries under the IPF-Canada Plan.

The Fund also offers the BAC Save Retirement Savings Plan which offers supplemental security for members consisting of both an Annuity and 401K Plan. Both the BAC Save Annuity and 401(k) Plans have proven track records of assisting members bridging gaps in their finances and improving living standards. Building upon its core mission of ensuring a secure, dignified retirement for skilled Union masonry craftworkers, the IPF strives to deploy the latest technology to administer it’s Plans and adheres to solid investment practices to protect Fund assets. Our participants are the most highly skilled trowel trades craftworkers across the United States and Canada including bricklayers, stone and marble masons, cement masons, plasterers, tile setters, terrazzo and mosaic workers, and pointers/cleaners/caulkers.

The Position:
IPF is seeking a Pre-Retirement Services Team Leader to manage and monitor the email group for pension applications, oversee training, process pre-estimates via email and hand delivered mail, as well as generating letters stating to calculated benefits.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Answering participants and local union office/officers via phone calls/e-mails, faxes and member portal communications on second contact courteously and effectively, communicating clear and accurate details and process of the IPF US and Canada/Retirement Savings Plan (RSP)/401K inclusive of the carve out process’ of Qualified Domestic Relations Order (QDRO)/Military and the Reciprocity program to Plan participants and Local Union representatives. Functions as a second-tier subject matter expert (SME)
  • Directs calls from participants, their representatives and local union offices to the appropriate Team Lead of the IPF – US/Canada/RSP/401K/QDRO/Military/Reciprocity department and/or the Executive Team
  • Processing fund level tasks such as Mergers. Moving (data input/creation) valid data from paper to electronic then verifying ALL information according to the legal documents. Preparation for input into the systems. Oversee the mailings for inactive vested, death, over 64/65yrs notice, annual statements, required minimum distribution (RMD’s), Small Balance QDRO’s, Disability, Life Letters, mergers, etc. Assists other Benefits Examiners in researching Plan participant records and calculating International Pension Fund/Retirement Savings Plan/Merger benefits, including research, benefit computations and record keeping
  • Document Management (Electronic and Paper) inclusive of maintenance of administrative and member files for each topic/project. Provides support for the other in-house teams
  • Monitor and maintain the assigned Team E-Mail boxes by sending acknowledgements and assisting members in completing applications and submitting them
  • Oversee training of first line personnel in office work phone etiquette, procedures in relating to first contact, personally identifiable information (PII)
  • Monitor the IPF bacbenefits.org website – for updates and/or additional communications, as needed
  • Process pre-estimate requests and send out applications via multiple methods. This entails analyzing, researching, and verifying all information received as well as all information in house
  • Research the eligibility of deceased participants and corresponds with beneficiaries and/or their legal representatives regarding eligibility for death/survivor benefits
  • Compose original letters as required and calculating estimated benefits under the rules and regulations of the US – IPF Pension Plan. Making sure they are coded, recorded, and set for imaging in the file systems
  • Assist with creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and staff training (as needed)

  • Prepare Productivity Reports to the Executive Team regarding the assigned topics/projects, number of phone calls/e-mail/faxes, correspondence assigned/associated tasks statistics., etc. 
  • Performs all other duties/projects as deemed necessary by the Executive Team

Skills & Other Requirements:

  • Requires professional, excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills
  • Requires proficiency in basic arithmetic and ability to perform mathematical computations relating to the calculation of benefits
  • Must be able to utilize the PAS (Pension Application System), Revenue Accounting System (RAS), Annuity Application System (AAS) and OTG Application Extender as well as the member portal (Multiemployer) platform) and the BACSHARE file
  • Requires expert knowledge of the Retirement Savings Plan/401K/US and Canadian Pension Fund Rules and Regulations. Merger Agreements, QDRO’s and Reciprocity plans and programs
  • Must have the ability to organized and accomplish assigned tasks with minimal supervision. 
  • Must have the ability to meet tightly scheduled deadlines and attain high level of accuracy
  • Bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred
  • Strong attention to detail
  • At least three (3) years of supervisory experience, knowledge of Union and Pension environments are highly preferred
  • Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation a plus
  • Experience in processing retirement benefits
  • Knowledge of computer data processing programs and network-based software packages
  • Knowledge of ERISA and how it applies to multi-employer plans
  • Ability to read, understand and apply the Rules and Regulations of the IPF, IPF-Canada, RSP and merged local Plans accurately to determine eligibility for benefits
  • The ability to organized and accomplish assigned tasks with minimal supervision
  • Ability to assume responsibility for both accuracy and completeness of work assignments
  • Experience working with large databases 
  • Ability to communicate complex issues both orally and in writing to a range of interested parties including plan participants and beneficiaries

Salary: $86,000.00
