Worker Justice Campaign Lead

About Us
The North Valley Labor Federation is a partnership of over 60 unions representing more than 100,000 union members in Merced, Mariposa, Stanislaus, Tuolumne, San Joaquin, and Calaveras Counties. Our mission is to grow and strengthen the labor movement and build power for working people in the North San Joaquin Valley.
Hours
This is a full-time position, on average 40 hours per week (work hours often include some evenings and weekends).
Compensation
Salary will be commensurate with experience in the range of $78,936 to $82,542 per year, plus health and retirement benefits.
Location
Our offices are in Modesto and Stockton. Staff regularly travel throughout the Northern San Joaquin Valley region and occasionally beyond for meetings and events (with mileage reimbursements for extended travel). This position also allows for regular opportunities to work remotely.
Representation
This position is a union job covered by a collective bargaining agreement with PNWSU Local 209.
Job Description
The Worker Justice Campaign Lead will organize workers to take collective action to improve their workplaces and their lives. Job duties may include:
- Organizing worker justice committee made up of workers with related workplace issues (including but not limited to wage theft, unsafe working conditions, and discrimination or retaliation)
- Guiding worker justice committees to develop a strategy, take collective action, and resolve their complaints
- Assisting workers in filing official claims complaints, records request and other official actions, as well as demand letters, delegations, negotiations, and other informal actions
- When appropriate, representing workers in hearings negotiations and other formal or informal proceedings
- Developing and implementing a strategic plan to maximize the impact of the NVLF’s worker justice campaigns
- Developing strategic enforcement partnerships and collaborations with labor, government, and community partners
- Identifying, applying for, and securing grants to help ensure continued funding for the NVLF’s worker justice programs
- Other duties as assigned in support of the mission of the NVLF
Qualifications
A successful applicant will have a depth of experience, knowledge, and professional relationships related to performing some or all of the job duties listed above. The ideal candidate will also:
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Be passionate about the mission of the labor movement and focused on doing impactful work that builds power for working people
- Have strong leadership skills while also being able to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Have a driver's license and access to reliable transportation to be able to travel as needed throughout the NVLF’s six county jurisdiction
- Be comfortable with commonly used technology (for example: Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Email and Social Media)
- Fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred
