Organizer

UFCW Local 1459 is seeking an entry level Organizer to recruit new members and build power for working people. As a labor organizer, you will also develop member leaders; work on collective bargaining & contract administration as assigned and build political coalitions that increase justice and equity for working people.

UFCW Local 1459 is a progressive, innovative, growing union of more than 4,200 public and private sector employees in the 4 western counties of Massachusetts and into Vermont. This is a great place to live and work.

Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate has at least two years of experience working independently on organizational and representational issues, developing member leaders. With a history of success in the following areas:

  • Organizing new units, recruiting and activating members.
  • Working collaboratively with elected leaders to achieve solid standards for our members and communities.
  • Promoting member activism and an organizing approach to contract administration.
  • Must be a self-starter, assertive/outspoken. Must be able to take rejection and remain calm in difficult situations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and be able to take regular directions and learn from experienced staff.
  • Willingness to periodically work long, irregular hours, including mornings, evenings and weekends.
  • Periodic travel necessary.
  • Lobbying and political action.
  • Motivation for continual self-development and education.
  • Spanish speaking is a plus.

This is a union position. Base compensation for this position is $50,000 plus a generous benefits package including but not limited to 14 holidays, 401k, pension, medical, dental and vision insurance, following completion of a 6-month probationary period, a vehicle will be provided, bonus and more.
