TRU-UE Local 197 seeks a full-time Union Support Staff member to join our local staff. TRU-UE Local 197 is a member-run union of over 3,000 graduate student workers at Johns Hopkins University across campuses in Baltimore, MD and Washington, DC. Responsibilities include:

• Running the local dues and fees processing
• Timely email communication with member inquiries (with input from elected custodians as needed)
• Maintaining the membership database (in coordination with the Data, Membership, and Records Committee)
• Maintaining the website
• Maintaining the union inventory
• Maintaining the google drive
• Attending committee meetings
• Coordinating bookings & purchasing for events
• Any other tasks as directed by elected leadership

Qualifications:

• Commitment to rank-and-file leadership development.
• Effective communication skills – listening, spoken, and written
• Ability to maintain accurate information on worksite and campaign activities
• Strong analytical skills
• Ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision; must be well-organized and self-motivated.
• Capacity to establish and cultivate relationships with people from diverse backgrounds
• Experience as a union representative and/or organizer preferred.

The salary for this position is $56,512.64 per year. Irregular hours, travel, and weekend work are an essential part of the job. Benefits include excellent health care, dental, vision, and retirement benefits.
