Political and Legislative Coordinator

Based in Philadelphia, PA

 

The Philadelphia Council AFL-CIO seeks a full-time Political and Legislative Coordinator to support the Council’s political program and advocacy work in Philadelphia. This role will work closely with labor leaders, elected officials and their staff, candidates and others.

Responsibilities Include:
Political Program

  • Organize and execute voter contact campaigns
  • Train volunteers
  • Create contact lists for door, phone and mail outreach

Worker Advocacy

  • Meeting with legislators, policy makers, department and agency staff to support pro-worker legislation
  • Research laws that benefit (or harm) workers at the city, county, state, or federal level.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Interest and experience in the labor movement
  • Experience with the political process - either as a student or employee
  • Comfort with data entry, spreadsheets, and self-directed research.
  • Unafraid to initiate conversations with leaders, workers, and elected officials on the phone or in person.

Desired Skills:

  • Political fundraising and PAC filing requirements
  • City or state legislative process and structure
  • Experience with the public workforce system

This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by Teamsters Local 623. The Philadelphia Council AFL-CIO offers a very generous benefit package including pension, 401k, medical insurance and much more.

Salary Range for this position is $55,000 - $65,000.
