Job Summary
CIR is seeking a Deputy Organizing Director for our new organizing department. This position is fully remote, although extensive travel is required, and therefore the candidate may be located anywhere in the United States. This position reports to the Organizing Director. The Deputy Organizing Director is responsible for successfully coordinating all aspects of a new organizing campaign in multiple regions. They will lead field operations and work with the Organizing Director and/or CIR senior leadership in overall strategic planning for organizing campaigns. The Deputy Organizing Director is responsible for the success of his/her team. The position often requires temporary assignments away from home.
What You’ll Do
- Assists in formulating strategic campaign plans, including developing strategy, comprehensive campaign planning, narrative development, and campaign office administration.
- Coordinating and executing field campaign plans.
- Supervises, develops, assigns, and evaluates organizing field staff, including developing
- individual work plans and overseeing their implementation and evaluation.
- Administers appropriate disciplinary action such as developing corrective performance plans or recommends terminations if necessary.
- Recruits, interviews and recommends hiring staff.
- Designs and implements organizing training and development plans designed to build effective teams to win union campaigns.
- Makes recommendations on appropriate allocation of resources.
- Prepares reports related to the work of the Organizing Department as needed.
- Works with other departments at CIR to move campaigns.
- Performs other duties as assigned in support of the department’s work.
What Makes a Great Candidate
- At least two (2) years of experience leading campaigns in a team setting and five (5) years of union organizing campaign experience required.
- Healthcare organizing experience preferred in both public and private sectors, but not required.
- Thorough knowledge of new organizing campaigns, campaign planning, development and execution processes and best practices required.
- Ability to quickly learn resident life/training, hospital operations and finance and relevant economic, and political issues.
- Demonstrates respectful and responsible behavior, and possesses the ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment.
- Strong planning and time management skills, ability to prioritize and develop work plans with minimal supervision including prioritizing and managing multiple tasks.
- Possesses excellent listening, interpersonal communication (oral/written) & problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of team or organizational management and leadership skills required.
- Ability to write campaign plans, reports and other relevant documents.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate, lead, build strong working relationships and hold others accountable while building respect and trust.
- Ability to supervise, develop and manage organizing teams made up of people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Ability to critically evaluate one’s own performance and incorporate feedback into improving performance.
- Actively and effectively develops the skills and autonomy of staff to meet organizational needs and individual staff’s professional goals.
- Ability to support, model and coach staff through honest, clear and timely feedback.
- 4-year degree, BA/BS preferred but not required
- Familiarity with statistics, quantitative and qualitative research.
- Fluency with Google products such as Gmail and Google Suite (docs, sheets, slides and drive); technologically proficient.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work long hours.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks, and think critically.
- Must be fully vaccinated for Covid in accordance with CDC guidelines, subject to any laws of the state in which the applicant resides.
CIR Offers
This is a full-time, salaried, overtime-exempt position. The salary for this position is $124,800.
