IT Support Specialist

The Connecticut Education Association (CEA) is seeking applicants for the position of Information Technology Help Desk Assistant. This position reports to the Information Technology manager.

We are looking for a candidate with enthusiasm for public education and expertise to support the Information Technology side of our mission. The successful candidate will leverage a range of technical skills to troubleshoot issues, maintain IT systems, and provide backup support for website development and maintenance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides primary IT help desk support by troubleshooting technical problems reported through the help desk or ticketing system.
  • Assists in maintaining the organization’s IT infrastructure, including implementing new programs and services.
  • Manages and supports a Microsoft 365 hybrid network, ensuring seamless integration and functionality between on-premises and cloud-based systems.
  • Serves as a backup to the website developer, assisting with website development, maintenance, updates, and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Ability to develop, design, and post web-based forms and provide general administrative support related to web-based projects.
  • Logs all service requests, updates tickets as needed, and keeps employees informed on the status of their service requests.
  • Provides problem resolution, reassigning or escalating advanced inquiries to the appropriate technician or manager.
  • Records data required to analyze problems and track them to final solution.
  • Prepares and presents reports related to IT problems and help desk activity for management review and action.
  • Works effectively in a cooperative team environment, taking initiative to assist others and exhibiting the ability to receive assistance when needed.
  • Assists the Information Technology Manager with resolving technical issues, maintaining hardware and software installations, and improving IT systems.
  • Proofreads, drafts, and edits correspondence, reports, manuals, and other documents using correct English grammar, punctuation, spelling, and format.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Good working knowledge of CEA’s primary goals and objectives.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite and Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365 hybrid networks.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to explain technical information in understandable language to CEA staff.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong ethics.
  • Thorough knowledge of office procedures, with skills in organizing and prioritizing work.
  • Thorough knowledge of English composition, grammar, spelling, and punctuation for composing and editing documents and for effective verbal communication.
  • Highly proficient in using personal computers to produce statistical tables, correspondence, charts, reports, and other documents.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Associate Degree in Information Technology or a related field.
  • Knowledge of coding such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Experience with content management systems (e.g., WordPress) is a plus.

Pay and Benefits:
The salary range is $65,111 – $83,442 annually, determined by experience. We also offer medical, dental, and vision plans, a 401k and pension plan, 16 paid holidays, vacation days, personal days, and sick time.
