Brandworkers
Organizing Apprenticeship
Based in New York City Metro Area
Want to make a change in the NYC food service industry? Have you been jumping from job to job in restaurants & bars, cafés, and/or bakeries? The only way to make lasting change in the working conditions in any industry is to build powerful worker organizations.
Brandworkers supports NYC & NJ local food manufacturing workers to organize their workplaces into strong, worker-led unions. We are seeking candidates to join our Organizing Apprentice Program, who will work directly on the shop floor in a strategic project to build organizing committees in a select number of NYC restaurants & bars, cafés, and bakeries. Brandworkers Organizing Apprentices will receive the training they need to become effective organizers and leaders in the broader labor movement.
You will be expected to take a job in the NYC food service industry, where you will work long hours in a tough work environment. There may be an unknown time gap to get hired after you join the program, and we cannot guarantee you a job placement. There is no pay or stipend for participating in the Organizing Apprentice program.
Do you want to be involved with a project building power on the shop floor in a mostly unorganized industry? Do you have the drive to work directly with your coworkers to build the social connections necessary to exert power and stand up to workplace injustices? Do you have experience working in restaurants & bars, cafés, and/or bakeries? Many participants of the Organizing Apprentice program find work as staff or volunteers in the greater labor movement afterwards. The best way to learn how to organize is to be a rank-and-file member of an organizing campaign.
