JOB DESCRIPTION
Local 509 is hiring a temporary, full-time Deputy Political Director, based in our Marlborough, MA office, starting as soon as possible through Dec. 2025. Along with other union staff and leaders, the Deputy Political Director will assist in the coordination and implementation of Union political programs through the 2025 Municipal elections.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
- Coordinate and implement SEIU Local 509 2025 political program, including hiring and management of member political organizers
- Design and lead political trainings and member-to-member actions for 509 members
- Coordinate Local 509 support for the Corporate Fair Share campaign
- Support SEIU Local 509 member candidates running for elected office, as needed
- Support monthly Local 509 COPE (Committee on Political Education) meetings.
- Design, build, and implement a statewide political activist network of Local 509 members.
- Other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 2-3 years experience in Massachusetts politics, campaign work, and/or the labor movement.
- Demonstrated ability to build and execute strategic field campaigns in support of an issue or candidate.
- Demonstrated writing ability and the ability to communicate union’s goals, particularly with respect to growing and increasing member participation in political campaigns and lobbying efforts.
- Ability to speak and present to various size audiences.
- Strong computer skills, including familiarity with voter and volunteer databases and e-mail programs.
- Willingness to work nights and weekends, including travel throughout the state and some out of state travel.
- An insured, registered vehicle and a valid drivers’ license.
- Ability to speak a second language, particularly Spanish, preferred.
- Commitment to progressive social change.
SUPERVISION
The Deputy Legislative Director works under the supervision of the Legislative & Political Director.
SALARY & BENEFITS
Salary range of $88,426.12 - $100,172.69, depending on experience. Generous leave and benefits package.
