The Teamsters are known as the champion of freight drivers and warehouse workers, but have organized workers in virtually every occupation imaginable, both professional and non-professional, private sector and public sector.

The Strategic Initiatives Department oversees the Teamsters’ communications, strategic research, economic analysis, and capital strategies as well as the Teamsters History Project. Strategic Initiatives provides essential resources to Teamster affiliates to succeed in organizing, public relations and contract campaigns, expand audience reach and improve messaging and public perception of the Teamsters.

Position Description:
We are looking to hire Communications Specialists to assist in facilitating effective and timely delivery of communications materials, including but not limited to digital and print news stories, press releases, web content, and other project assets. They will monitor and update communications tools and outlets to ensure public-facing content remains visible and interactive. Communications Specialists will also assist Project Managers and Senior Communications Specialists with writing, editing, or drafting content.

The position is based in Washington, DC. Candidates must be available to work in-person full time at our DC headquarters.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university highly desirable; an emphasis in journalism and communications preferred but not required.
• One to three years of work experience in a professional communications position required. Previous employment in a labor union/advocacy organization or professional industry association is preferred.
• Working knowledge of WordPress and/or other content management systems is strongly preferred.

Salary is commensurate with experience, with a salary range of $62,215.00 - $76,634.00. The IBT offers a robust benefits package including a 100% employer-paid health & welfare plan, FICA reimbursement, pension, and 401(k).
