Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Salary Range: $150,000.00 to $200,000.00 (depending on experience)
Work Arrangements: In Office
Hybrid (three days in the office and two remote days) after successful completion of the introductory period.

Job Summary
As the Director of Human Resources at UDW, you will be a pivotal strategic partner in shaping the organization's workforce and culture, developing innovative HR strategies that align with UDW's mission to support home caregivers and childcare workers across California. This role requires a visionary leader who can drive organizational effectiveness, champion social justice initiatives, and cultivate a diverse, inclusive workforce that embodies UDW's values. You will oversee a comprehensive range of HR functions, including policy development, talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation and benefits, and diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership and Organizational Development

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and senior leadership to develop and execute a long-term HR strategy that supports UDW's mission, values, and strategic goals
  • Lead transformational change initiatives, fostering a culture of adaptability, innovation, and continuous improvement
  • Provide data-driven insights on human capital trends and their impact on UDW's strategic objectives
  • Develop and implement cutting-edge talent management strategies to attract, retain, and develop top-tier, mission-driven talent
  • Establish HR performance metrics that align with UDW's mission and demonstrate the impact of HR initiatives on organizational goals
  • Conduct regular assessments of HR programs' effectiveness in supporting UDW's advocacy efforts and member service
  • Foster partnerships with other social justice organizations, labor unions, and nonprofits to share best practices and resources in HR management
  • Develop collaborative programs with educational institutions and training providers to support workforce development for UDW staff and members.
  • Design HR programs that support member engagement and empowerment within the union
  • Develop strategies to address the unique needs of home caregivers and childcare workers, including flexible work arrangements and support services
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure HR practices enhance member satisfaction and participation.
  • Create programs to support employee and member resilience and well-being, particularly in high-stress advocacy environments
  • Develop and implement a robust succession planning framework to ensure leadership continuity and talent pipelines for critical roles.
  • Lead organizational change initiatives by providing employees with tools, processes, and support during transitions.
  • Incorporate advanced workforce analytics to predict trends, improve decision-making, and align talent strategies with business goals

Employee Relations and Labor Management

  • Design and implement proactive employee relations strategies that promote a positive work environment, enhance employee engagement, and align with UDW's social justice mission
  • Lead labor relations efforts, including complex union negotiations and contract administration, ensuring alignment between union agreements and organizational objectives
  • Spearhead comprehensive diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives that foster an inclusive workplace culture and reflect UDW's commitment to social justice.
  • Establish formal mechanisms for resolving workplace conflicts, ensuring fairness and alignment with organizational values.
  • Design initiatives to measure and enhance employee engagement, fostering a motivated workforce that aligns with the organization's mission

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure strict compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, union agreements, and nonprofit-specific regulations
  • Conduct regular, comprehensive HR audits to ensure data integrity, compliance, and process efficiency
  • Stay at the forefront of evolving labor laws and regulations, proactively implementing necessary changes to maintain compliance and mitigate risks
  • Develop protocols for addressing workplace crises, such as health emergencies or legal disputes, ensuring business continuity.
  • Implement training programs on ethics and compliance to promote integrity across all levels of the organization.

Talent Acquisition and Development

  • Design and implement innovative, data-driven recruitment strategies to attract diverse, mission-driven talent
  • Develop and oversee comprehensive, multi-faceted training and development programs that address skill gaps, foster continuous learning, and align with UDW's social justice mission
  • Create and implement a robust, immersive onboarding program that accelerates new hire integration and reinforces UDW's values and mission
  • Strengthen UDW’s reputation as an employer of choice through targeted employer branding strategies.
  • Create specialized leadership development programs to groom high-potential employees for future leadership roles

Compensation and Benefits

  • Develop and implement innovative total rewards strategies that attract, retain, and motivate top talent while aligning with UDW's mission and values
  • Conduct regular, in-depth market analysis to ensure UDW's compensation and benefits packages remain competitive, equitable, and supportive of the organization's goals
  • Oversee the administration of comprehensive benefits programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and optimizing cost-effectiveness.
  • Introduce customizable benefits options that cater to diverse employee needs, such as wellness stipends or remote work allowances.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure equitable pay practices across all demographics within the organization

HR Operations and Technology

  • Lead the implementation and optimization of advanced HRIS and other HR technology solutions to streamline processes and enhance data-driven decision-making
  • Develop and maintain a sophisticated HR analytics framework to measure the effectiveness of HR initiatives and their impact on organizational performance
  • Manage the HR department budget strategically, aligning resource allocation with UDW's priorities and mission
  • Develop a long-term roadmap for integrating emerging HR technologies like AI-driven tools or advanced employee experience platforms.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy laws in managing employee information systems.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversee staff within assigned area(s).
  • Develop staff skills and competencies.
  • Provide guidance and ensure staff’s compliance with UDW policies and procedures.
  • Set performance and deadlines goals that comply with the company’s plans and vision and communicate them to subordinates.
  • Organize workflow and ensure that employees understand their duties or delegated tasks.
  • Monitor employee productivity and provide constructive feedback and coaching.
  • Receive complaints and resolve problems.
  • Maintain timekeeping and other records.
  • Pass on information from upper management to employees and vice versa.
  • Prepare and submit performance reports.
  • Decide on rewards and promotions based on performance.
  • Hire and train new employees.
  • Ensure adherence to legal and company policies and procedures and undertake disciplinary actions if necessary.
  • Implement mentorship opportunities within the HR team to foster professional growth and knowledge sharing among staff members.
  • Facilitate performance calibration sessions to ensure consistency in employee evaluations across teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications, Education, and/or Experience:

  • Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in senior HR management roles, with significant experience in nonprofit or labor union environments
  • SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and deep understanding of the challenges facing home care and childcare workers
  • Extensive knowledge of federal and California labor laws and regulations
  • Proven experience in complex labor relations, collective bargaining, and working with union representatives
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale change management initiatives and foster inclusive organizational cultures
  • Advanced proficiency in HRIS and other HR technology platforms
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable
