TEAM SUMMARY
Our growing digital organizing team captures and amplifies the stories of workers nationwide while making the unionization process accessible to various audiences. The team works collaboratively and creatively to craft compelling content that informs, and empowers people to take collective action to make their jobs — and their lives — better.
Position Description:
The team seeks a Digital Specialist to help support UFCW’s digital organizing content & outreach program. This is an opportunity to join a team that collaborates on content strategy and engagement for organizing campaigns with non-union workers.
This person will help create and manage digital / social media content for UFCW’s organizing campaigns in order to increase the union’s online influence and engagement. The Digital Specialist will also play a key role in helping maintain the content process and raising our Start a Union brand’s awareness among grocery, retail, pharmacy, cannabis, and meatpacking workers, among others.
The ideal candidate for this role will be dedicated to building worker power through digital & social media — and be a strong communicator who can help with digital community engagement on our many campaigns. Compassion for others and a commitment to supporting working people struggling to have a better life are musts for this position.
The Digital Specialist will work in our DC office with up to 30 telework days annually. Work requires limited but occasional travel and/or irregular or unpredictable hours.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Social media monitoring and digital outreach: Monitors social media platforms to provide real time responses to potential non-union worker contacts and develop reports on social media activity on UFCW campaign accounts, as well as following trends across social platforms.
- Digital media content production: Assist in development of various content pieces — from copy for websites to social media posts to ad campaigns. Most frequent content needs include copy and simple graphics for social media posts (often supported by photos, and/or short — including live — videos), text messages, website copy, and flyers.
- Social media content and calendar management: Manage our digital editorial calendar (Monday.com board) as well as the scheduling and launching of that content across our channels on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok, monitoring post performance and working with the Content Lead to maximize post engagement and reach.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Skills that would equal 1-2 years of experience in social media and digital content skills on several of the following platforms: Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter (X), Reddit.
- Experience engaging with digital communities and social media management.
- Fluency working with social media platforms and digital means of communication (websites, texting, online, email, video, etc.) and eagerness to monitor and adapt to latest trends.
- Ability to manage and maintain a communications calendar and help create strategic content plans.
- Ability to analyze social media data, extract insights, and provide strategic recommendations to improve performance and engagement.
- Excellent writing, grammar, and copy editing skills.
- Demonstrated ability to explain and make concepts & ideas accessible to different audiences.
- Sensitivity and social awareness when communicating with broad audiences on our various organizing campaigns.
- Ability to work both in a team and independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and track multiple tasks at once.
- Must be results-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to prioritize projects and activities.
- Must possess the ability to think strategically and exercise a high level of judgment.
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite applications; primarily Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of labor organizing processes.
- Demonstrated experience using social media in advocacy campaigns and to increase an organization’s reach, relevance, and influence.
- Some experience in community organizing or engagement is a plus.
- Good eye for graphic design (extensive design experience is not required).
- Experience working in a customer-facing retail / grocery / food service environment.
- Competency in a second language (ideally Spanish).
Compensation:
Salary Range: $60,963 - $78,942.
