Position Type: Full-Time

The Greater Minnesota Worker Center (GMWC) is a community-based organization dedicated to empowering low-wage workers in the Greater St. Cloud area in Central Minnesota through organizing, education, advocacy, and leadership development. We work to unite workers across ethnic and cultural backgrounds to advocate for systemic changes that improve workplace conditions and strengthen communities.

GMWC is currently seeking a Bilingual English/Spanish Organizer Director to build a powerful movement of organized low-wage worker-led committees, cultivate leadership within the Latinx community, and expand our membership base. This individual will collaborate with the GMWC Board, Executive Director, and organizing staff to develop a multi-lingual, multi-cultural worker-led movement in strategic industries such as meatpacking, agriculture, education, construction, and healthcare.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Worker Organizing & Leadership Development
    • Build relationships with low-wage workers, transforming them into workplace and community activists.
    • Identify and develop worker-leaders to take on leadership roles in organizing efforts.
    • Create workplace and citywide, worker-driven organizing committees.
    • Plan and prepare workers for collective action to win workplace and community improvements.
    • Gather and analyze worker concerns to identify opportunities for movement building and mobilization.
  • Mentorship & Training
    • Mentor, manage, and direct 1-2 organizers in strategizing and executing organizing campaigns.
    • Recruit, train, and develop worker leaders to strengthen grassroots organizing efforts.
    • Engage Spanish-speaking workers and increase participation in GMWC initiatives.
    • Facilitate trainings on workers’ rights, including:
      • Health and Safety
      • Workplace organizing
      • Unemployment benefits
      • Workers' compensation
      • Rapid response strategies
    • Lead immigration-related trainings on work permit application/renewal, DACA, TPS, the naturalization process, etc.
  • Strategic Campaigns & Advocacy
    • Identify and develop industry-specific campaigns to advance worker justice.
    • Support local, state, and federal advocacy efforts for immigration reform and workers' rights.
    • Build strategic partnerships with:
      • Policymakers
      • Labor unions
      • Nonprofit organizations
      • Faith groups and leaders
      • Academic institutions etc.
  • Organizational Support & Administration
    • Support the Executive Director in fundraising efforts, including grant writing and reporting.
    • Lead and supervise GMWC’s grassroots organizing efforts.
    • Maintain accurate worker contact information and engagement data using Google Forms and organizational databases.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned to support GMWC’s mission and objectives.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Dedication to building a multi-racial movement of workers.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social and economic justice.
  • Experience in worker/community organizing or direct-action advocacy (2-3 years preferred).
  • Ability to engage and mobilize diverse communities.
  • Willingness to conduct worksite and home visits.
  • Experience in campaign strategy development and execution.
  • Strong ability to make and execute a weekly work plan.
  • Commitment to deep listening, mastering organizing conversations, and incorporating feedback.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent writing and computer skills.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (spoken and written).
  • Ability and willingness to provide interpretation in multi-lingual settings.
  • Ability to be punctual and work long or irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and occasional holidays based on campaign demands.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to navigate interpersonal dynamics effectively.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for organizing efforts.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle for work-related travel, and auto insurance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in labor organizing or leading worker organizing campaigns.
  • Proven track record in fundraising from foundations, unions, and government grants.

Compensation:
Annual salary ranges from $60,000 to $65,000, depending on the candidate’s experience.
