POSITION DESCRIPTION
With more than 20,000 members across four states and complex member data spanning multiple decades, MNA is seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking data professional to join our team. This role will support the day-to-day management and modernization of our data infrastructure. MNA’s data team is new and growing and while the primary work of this position will be data engineering, there may be other data projects that this role is asked to support.
MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
- Support the development of pipelines between data systems
- Collaborate with the Director of Data and Technology and vendors on the creation, implementation, testing, and maintenance of MNA's core data pipelines and automation. This work will entail maintaining and creating data pipelines that move data between platforms.
- Oversee data and analytics projects and pipelines in concert with the Director of Data and Technology to build both short-term and long-term data infrastructure
- Support the maintenance of MNA's existing data systems (e.g. EveryAction, Unionware, Action Builder, ThruText)
- Assist in the creation of reports/dashboards
- Troubleshoot and QA existing scripts/workflows
- Build understanding among colleagues and partners about the effective use of data
- Produce scalable, replicable code and engineering solutions that help automate repetitive data management tasks.
- Perform one-off data manipulation and analysis on a wide variety of labor, organizing, and research data
- Support the Director of Data and Technology with the planning and implementation of adopting a new CRM
EXPERIENCE
- 2+ years using SQL, Python, and other scripting languages professionally
- 2+ years of experience as a data engineer, engineering-focused analyst, or database administrator
- Experience deploying or monitoring data pipelines
- GCP experience (in particular BigQuery, Google Cloud Storage)
- Using APIs to push and pull data from various sources
- Familiarity with at least two of the following tools: Action Builder, VAN/EveryAction, Unionware
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Possesses strong analytical skills and the ability to dig through various resources
- Willingness to learn new things and experiment with solutions to problems
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience
- Ability to translate organizational needs into appropriate recommendations
- Ability to work independently within the context of a larger strategic plan
- Project management skills (group/team organization, communication, and follow-through)
- Capacity to meet deadlines, work productively in a team environment, and handle multiple responsibilities
- Nice to have: strong familiarity with unions
SALARY: Per MNASO Local 1, Unit 2 Contract Agreement. A salary of range of $84,656 – 156,062, dependent on experience, with generous benefits including defined benefit pension, 401K matching, 100% employer-paid single and low-cost family health insurance coverage, 20 vacation, 12 sick, and 3 personal days along with 12 paid holidays annually.
