The California Federation of Labor Unions, AFL-CIO represents over 1,300 affiliate unions in California that collectively represent 2.3 million union members in trucking, retail, hospitality, and other service sector jobs, janitorial, construction, health care, local and state government, education, arts and entertainment, warehousing and logistics, manufacturing, and a variety of other sectors.

The Data Coordinator will work to support targeted political campaigns and help the Federation respond to affiliated unions’ and central labor councils’ requests for assistance and resources.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate voter file data to reach union voters using the PDI system including creating universes, setting up online phone banks/canvassing projects and requesting electronic files through the AFL-CIO process;
  • Help manage the AFL-CIO approval process for use of member data;
  • Support central labor councils in training and use of PDI;
  • Lead, run, and assist other labor councils with virtual phone banks using CallEvo;
  • Work with central labor councils and local unions to support member-to-member voter outreach programs on PDI or other programs as needed;
  • Support the Federation’s political mobilization programs such as canvassing and GOTV, phone banks, volunteer recruitment, worksite outreach programs, and other events and actions;
  • Help implement the Federation’s Campaign Academy trainings and other political trainings;
  • Assist in the planning and staffing support for the Federation’s conferences, trainings, meetings, convenings, and events;
  • Provide staffing support to the Federation’s leaders in the field.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Prior experience in political campaigns, union organizing, and/or community organizing encouraged but not required;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong ability to speak publicly and clearly present information to groups;
  • Strong attention to detail with ability to take clear direction, balance multiple tasks and time-sensitive assignments;
  • Ability to excel working in fast-paced, high-pressure environments – both individually and collaborating as part of a team;
  • Access to a car and ability to drive.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
The Political Organizer position is represented by the Pacific Media Workers Guild, Local 39521. The annual salary for this position is $85,000 to $90,000. Per the collective bargaining agreement, the position includes fully paid health and welfare, pension, vacation, holidays, and sick leave. This is a limited-term position, with the potential of extension or transfer into other positions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The Data Coordinator will report to the Political Director and Deputy Chief of Staff. Working in-person is required, position can be based out of Sacramento, Oakland, Los Angeles, or San Diego. Travel to Sacramento and other areas of the state is required.

Data coordinators spend significant time in union halls, job sites, and in the field, meeting workers where they’re at and supporting the work of affiliate unions and central labor councils. There is frequent evening and weekend work. This position requires travel throughout the state of California, a driver’s license and access to a car is required.
