Position Summary
The Leadership Coordinator is responsible for the implementing and evolving SUN’s leadership development programs. The primary responsibility of this position is to run our Boards and Commissions Leadership Institute (BCLI), SUN’s premier leadership program that trains our diverse, working-class base to serve on Metro Nashville’s boards and commissions for the public good. The Leadership Coordinator will also work closely with the Organizing Team on trainings for the SUNshine Squad and Organizing School.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead candidate recruitment, interviews, and selection process for the BCLI.
- Identify BCLI training needs, updating learning objectives and curriculum as needed.
- Plan and facilitate BCLI sessions, including recruiting and preparing guest speakers and trainers.
- Match BCLI fellows to appropriate boards and commissions and support their placement.
- Establish good relationships with the Mayor’s Office, Metro Council, and boards and commissions staff to support the appointment of graduates.
- Build authentic relationships with our base, BCLI alumni, colleagues, external partners, and other stakeholders in service of growing the impact and reach of our leadership programs.
- Monitor openings on key boards and commissions.
- Track and regularly report on challenges and progress of leadership programs.
- Run quarterly alumni events to support ongoing collaboration, professional development, mentoring, networking, policy changes, and placement.
- Collaborate with the Organizing Team to develop and execute trainings and build leadership ladders for SUNshine Squad and Organizing School.
- Support SUN’s campaigns through training and leadership development.
- Develop and facilitate additional leadership development initiatives as needed.
Organizational Commitments
- Represent SUN at conferences, public meetings, and media events.
- Be a thought partner on leadership development initiatives.
- Participate in BCLI replication calls, monthly membership meetings, weekly staff meetings, internal trainings, and other mandatory team sessions.
- Maintain personal organization systems and adhere to organizational policies.
- Complete reimbursements, credit card, and lobbying reports.
- Other duties as assigned by the Organizing Director.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated commitment to SUN’s mission.
- 3-5 years of experience in designing and implementing training programs in the field of organizing, leadership development, civics, or policy change.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to identify and build leaders across differences such as race, ethnicity, status, sexual orientation, ability, or gender identity.
- Skillful at facilitation, popular education, and creating liberatory learning spaces.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Display a positive attitude, shows concern for people and community, demonstrates presence, self-confidence, common sense, and good listening ability.
- Understand the importance of transforming our city’s use of public resources so all Nashvillians can thrive.
- Understand the political landscape of Nashville and Tennessee.
- Proficient with Zoom and Google Workspace applications including Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms.
- Ability to regularly work nights and weekends.
- Attention to detail and managing time and expectations with respect to deadlines.
- Willingness to learn and use Monday project management software.
- Strong work ethic, project management skills, and personal commitment to excellence.
Work Environment
- Based in Nashville.
- SUN staff are currently on a hybrid work schedule.
- Ability to travel required.
- Repetitive use of computer and office equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds when setting up venues for meetings and events.
Compensation
- Competitive Salary starting at $65,000 with increase based on experience.
- 100% of health, dental, and vision premiums for employees and family members.
- 12 days per year of paid vacation time increasing with tenure up to 20 days.
- Up to 12 paid sick leave days per year.
