Public Affairs Administrator

The National Air Traffic Controllers Association, AFL-CIO ("NATCA"), the labor union representing federal-sector and private-sector air traffic controllers and other aviation safety professionals, has an immediate opening for a Public Affairs Administrator in its Washington, D.C. headquarters office.
The Public Affairs Administrator is responsible for: (1) drafting and editing news stories about NATCA and its members for communication vehicles such as email communications, NATCA’s social media channels, and NATCA’s website; (2) managing NATCA’s social media accounts and utilizing digital assets to meet communications and outreach goals; (3) coordinating with graphics/video production colleagues to produce attention-grabbing content; (4) coordinating reviews of draft news items and graphics with staff, local and regional leaders, and subject matter experts; (5) laying out and distributing electronic communications; (6) staying current with evolving social media best practices, trends, and emerging platforms; (7) identifying and tracking relevant social media channels maintained by members’ employers, partner associations and groups, and other relevant communities; (8) managing social advertising on Facebook, X, and LinkedIn; (9) tracking, analyzing, and reporting readership data, including open and click-through rates; and (10) acting as a department liaison to NATCA committees.
Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; strong writing and copyediting skills in both long-form articles and short-form tweets and posts; and an excellent command of English grammar rules and the Associated Press Stylebook. Applicants should also have three or more years of public relations experience with some experience preparing social and digital communications; proficiency with a variety of computer applications for word processing and communications; expertise using digital delivery tools such as Constant Contact and Hootsuite; and an understanding of how to track and report digital metrics. Multimedia editing experience is preferred.
The pay band for this position is $60,047 to $108,084. NATCA offers employer-paid health, dental, vision, long-term and short-term disability insurance; a defined benefit retirement plan, a 401(k), transit benefits, and a hybrid work schedule.
