SUMMARY: The Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) is seeking an Immigration Coordinator to lead efforts to promote and defend the rights of immigrant workers while advancing LIUNA’s mission to achieve justice for all workers. This individual will engage directly with immigrant communities and collaborate with local, state, and national partners to influence immigration policy and improve labor standards for immigrant workers. The Immigration Coordinator will also educate LIUNA members, leaders, and allies about immigration issues and their impact on all workers. They will assist in developing and delivering workshops and programs that address the intersection of immigration, labor rights, and workplace solidarity.

This position plays a critical role in uniting workers across diverse backgrounds and strengthening understanding and advocacy for immigration policies that benefit the workforce as a whole.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Coordinate efforts with other unions, coalitions, and advocacy organizations to amplify LIUNA’s voice on immigration issues.
  • Develop, customize, and deliver workshops, presentations, and educational programs on immigration issues, labor rights, and their effects on immigrant and non-immigrant workers for LIUNA leaders and members.
  • Ensure that training content is accessible, relevant, and engaging for participants with varying levels of knowledge.
  • Translate complex immigration policies and labor issues into clear, actionable information.
  • Facilitate discussions that foster awareness and solidarity across diverse groups of workers.
  • Assist in grassroots organizing initiatives to empower immigrant workers to join LIUNA and advocate for their rights.
  • Promote solidarity between immigrant and non-immigrant workers by addressing shared workplace challenges and emphasizing the importance of collective action.
  • Incorporate real-world case studies and examples to connect immigration and labor rights to workers’ lived experiences.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Passion for labor rights, immigrant advocacy, and social justice.
  • Experienced in organizing immigrant communities or related advocacy work.
  • Familiarity with immigration policies, labor laws, and workers’ rights.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and build trust across diverse communities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and independently in fast-paced environments.
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills are strongly preferred.
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years of experience in grassroots organizing, policy advocacy, or community engagement.
  • Background working with labor unions, nonprofit organizations, or immigration-related campaigns.
