Lead Organizer
Based in Sacramento, CA
The Center for Workers’ Rights (CWR) is seeking a Lead Organizer to join our team immediately. This full-time, salaried position requires proficiency in both English and Spanish and involves direct communication with workers and public engagement. The position is based in Sacramento and requires local travel.
About the Center for Workers’ Rights:
Founded in 2014, CWR’s mission is to create a community where workers are respected and treated with dignity. To bring that vision into reality, we provide legal representation to low wage workers, advocate for initiatives to advance workers’ rights and promote worker education, activism, and leadership in the greater Sacramento area.
Responsibilities:
The Lead Organizer will strengthen and expand CWR’s base-building and worker-led direct action programs. This role involves developing organizing strategies, supporting worker leaders, and mobilizing workers to take collective action. The Lead Community Organizer will:
- Lead, train, and supervise staff engaged in organizing work.
- Identify and recruit workers through CWR’s outreach programs, clinics, and educational initiatives.
- Develop and implement strategies to expand CWR’s worker membership program.
- Design and execute campaigns and actions that empower workers to advocate for workplace rights.
- Facilitate leadership development among worker members.
- Mobilize workers around workplace issues, public policy, and broader labor rights concerns.
- Implement effective communication strategies to engage low-wage and undocumented workers.
- Collaborate with coalition partners, government agencies, and media to amplify worker-led initiatives.
- Track program outcomes and maintain detailed records of organizing efforts.
- Work closely with the Executive Director to align organizing efforts with legal and policy initiatives.
- Provide general support across CWR programs and assist with administrative tasks as needed.
- Take on special projects and other assigned duties as necessary.
Desired Qualifications:
- 3-5 years prior experience organizing workers within low-wage fields and immigrant communities, and campaign development in a labor or non-profit setting
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing in English and Spanish
- Experience with staff and team leadership
- Understanding of current workplace protections in California
- California driver’s license in good standing, current verifiable insurance, and access to a vehicle for work related, local travel
- Quick learner of new technologies
Compensation:
Salary range is between $80,000 and $90,000 annually depending on experience. This position is exempt, and is eligible for healthcare benefits.
