Salary Range: $90,000 – $110,000 annually (commensurate with experience)
Reports to: Executive Director

Position Summary
Latinas Contra Cancer (LCC) is seeking an experienced, passionate leader to spearhead its community organizing and health justice campaigns. The Director of Community Organizing will manage and develop the patient organizing program, lead health justice campaigns, and supervise a team of organizers. This position will also play a vital role in building grassroots leadership among Latina patient advocates, fostering partnerships, and driving transformative change in healthcare systems.

The ideal candidate is deeply committed to health justice, skilled in campaign strategy, and experienced in leadership development within a liberation framework.

Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership

  • Lead the development and execution of organizing strategies that build the power of Latina patients to advocate for systemic change.
  • Direct the design and implementation of health justice campaigns, including the ongoing Patient Bill of Rights Campaign.
  • Oversee LCC’s annual Defensoras Patient Organizing Retreat, ensuring impactful training and community-building for Latina patient leaders.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Director of Programs to align organizing efforts with
  • LCC’s mission and strategic goals.

Team Management

  • Supervise and mentor organizers, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • Recruit, onboard, and train new organizing staff, interns, and volunteers.
  • Develop performance metrics and track the progress of organizing initiatives and team members.

Grassroots Leadership Development

  • Design and deliver leadership training programs focused on organizing, advocacy, and campaign strategy.
  • Equip Latina patient leaders with the skills to lead campaigns, facilitate meetings, and engage policymakers.
  • Transition graduates of the Defensoras program into ongoing leadership roles within LCC’s organizing initiatives.

Campaign Development and Advocacy

  • Collaboratively develop campaign strategies with patients, staff, and community allies.
  • Facilitate participatory action research and analysis to inform campaign priorities.
  • Coordinate mobilization efforts, including public actions, policy hearings, and media engagement.

Community Building and Partnerships

  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners, coalitions, and local organizations.
  • Serve as LCC’s representative in health justice collaborations and policy advocacy efforts.
  • Promote mutual aid and solidarity among patient leaders and community members.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience:
    • 5-7 years of experience in community or union organizing, campaign leadership, or health justice advocacy.
    • 3+ years of experience managing staff or teams.
  • Skills and Attributes:
    • Strong commitment to health equity and building the power of underrepresented communities.
    • Proficiency in grassroots leadership development, including curriculum design and
    • facilitation.
    • Proven ability to design and implement successful advocacy campaigns.
    • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Fluency in Spanish (oral and written) is required.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Salesforce, and web-based communication tools.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
    • Familiarity with culturally competent practices and an anti-oppression framework.
