The Organization of Staff Analysts (OSA) is a labor union that represents over five thousand professional employees working for the City of New York. OSA has a long-standing reputation for being at the forefront of progressive movements and advancements in worker rights.
Join our dynamic team as the Grievance Coordinator, where you will play a vital role in supporting our legal, negotiations, and grievance teams. This position provides a unique opportunity to contribute to advancing workers' rights while developing expertise in employment, labor, and civil service law.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate records of ongoing cases and organize files (both digital and physical).
- Track important deadlines, submit grievance requests, and file appeals on time.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for staff, union leadership, members, and external partners.
- Document and log case-related information thoroughly into the database.
- Conduct research to address inquiries and gather relevant information from multiple parties.
- Stay informed about policies and procedures, providing clear and concise explanations to union members and internal staff.
- Ensure grievances and appeals are processed and resolved in compliance with established timelines and accuracy standards.
- Prepare grievance submissions, and generate and distribute notices, emails, letters, forms, and other materials.
- Coordinate and manage logistics for internal and external meetings.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all sensitive information.
Collaborative Duties:
- Work closely with the grievance team to investigate, analyze, and resolve member grievances.
- Assist in preparing documentation, evidence, and arguments for grievance hearings and arbitrations.
Qualifications:
- Passion for Workers' Rights: A demonstrated interest in social and economic justice.
- Experience: Background in labor relations, human resources, or related fields preferred, particularly with a focus on union or worker representation.
- Organizational Skills: Exceptional ability to manage caseloads, maintain records, and stay on top of deadlines.
- Teamwork: Ability to collaborate effectively with union leadership, members, and external partners.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey information clearly and professionally.
- Adaptability: Proven ability to handle multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adjust to shifting circumstances.
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
