Job Title: Mobilizer/Organizer
Status (FT/PT/ Temporary): FT – Temporary 12-months (potential to become permanent)
FLSA Status (Exempt/Non-Exempt): Exempt

Responsibilities
- Some Specific Duties:
- Identify, recruit, and develop workplace leaders and move workers into action;
- Assess workers issues and union support, map workplaces, build union support and strong majority membership signups
- Lead and conduct meetings, phonebanks, trainings, demonstrations, pickets, marches, and other events and actions;
- Track, compile and analyze campaign data in a systematic way;
- Work long and irregular hours, often including nights and weekend and travel;
- Develop workplace leaders’ skills to do all of the above.
- Work with the local to help identify and encourage others in local to participate in internal organizing and mobilization campaigns and build support for organizing
- Help with the preparation of internal and external organizing, mobilization and steward trainings
Qualifications:
- Willing and able to take regular direction and learn from experienced staff and/or organizers.
- Willing to commit, energy, heart and long, irregular hours
- Ability to learn and implement the campaign basics
- Be able to take notes, listen and get information/report back to the Union
- Have a fundamental commitment to building a diverse and democratic labor movement and ability to organize workers from diverse backgrounds and demographics.
- Be able to communicate effectively in writing, in speaking, and via electronic media. Be able to work with data bases, able to do basic flyers and other written material
- Motivated self-starter able to learn and troubleshoot without heavy supervision. Must be able to perform successfully in both independent and team settings;
- Must be able to travel to work locations away from home/office location.
- Strong social, written and verbal communication skills
- Patient in pressure situations and savvy with conflict management
- Ability to solve problems creatively and think on your feet;
- Must have strong judgment and strategic sense;
- Ability to move members to be public in their support of the union
- Ability to explain membership dues, sign up members, and train stewards to build their membership
Requirements
- Minimum one year of experience in organizing, mobilizing or recruiting others in a union or other active organization;
- Timeline:
- Temporary with possibility of being hired on permanent
Preferably with experience working with nurses or in hospital environments.
This position requires traveling in New Jersey. Candidates must be able to travel to our other represented facilities in Lakewood and Tom’s River and assist with any potential organizing leads anywhere in the State. Employees may be allowed to work remote up to four days per-month at the discretion of NJNU President.
Compensation
- Starts on $75,000 – $85,000, commensurate with experience.
- Car Allowance of $500 per month
- Fully covered health insurance
- Paid Vacation and Sick Time
