Position Summary:
The Education and Training Associate will help design and deliver training, education and development for staff and members of AFSCME Local 3299. With an emphasis on the training and development of members and member leaders of AFSCME Local 3299, the Education and Training Associate will work closely with our field team to brainstorm, draft and deliver training. This position reports to the Development Director.
Responsibilities will include:
- Proactively collaborate with other departments to co-create trainings for AFSCME 3299 members.
- Manage multiple projects at a time, meeting deadlines, communicating status to stakeholders, and identifying, raising and resolving obstacles along the way.
- (Co)facilitate dynamic trainings, meetings, and training-of-trainer events.
- Assist with the planning, coordination, design and delivery of multiple workshops at the annual member conference.
- Develop and maintain electronic archive and annual Calendar of Training Events and for both staff and member trainings.
- Perform/assist with other training and development duties as assigned by the Development Director.

- Ability to listen to ideas of others and translate into draft curricula: You listen deeply, ask follow-up questions and repeat back. You can facilitate a productive group brainstorm and take the knowledge/ideas gathered and turn them into draft curriculum for review by stakeholders.
- Ability to receive and incorporate feedback: You seek feedback and believe constructive feedback is necessary for improvement. You are open to receiving unsolicited feedback. You incorporate feedback to make improvements to your work. You acknowledge mistakes and turn them into learning opportunities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at a time, setting and meeting deadlines along the way: You have, or can create a system for managing multiple projects and keeping tasks from slipping through the cracks. You plan backwards to set and meet deadlines. You are able to juggle competing demands and prioritize without sacrificing quality.
- Awareness of Racial Equity in group dynamics: You recognize ways that race and other identities intersect in the work, especially with communities we serve. You are able to hear, reflect, act on, and learn from feedback re: identity and equity.
- You have at least 2 years of experience training/education related projects.
- Experience as a union or community organizer is a plus.
- Bilingual is a plus.
Additional Requirements:
- Some day and overnight travel; statewide travel is required.
- Attendance at the yearly MAT Conference is mandatory and usually involves multiple overnight stays and travel.
- Willingness to work long and irregular hours, including nights and weekends.
- Must possess a valid California driver's license, auto insurance with business coverage, and an automobile for business use.
Physical Requirements (as required by ADA)
Work is performed in a variety of employment settings. Sitting for long periods of time, standing for long periods of time, driving, travel, temporary assignments, irregular and extended work hours are required.
