Job Summary
The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) is a trade union representing 600,000 active and retired members in aerospace, defense, airline, manufacturing, transportation, automotive, woodworking, health care, and other industries in North America.
The IAM Strategic Resources Department is responsible for providing information and developing strategies in support of organizing, bargaining, public policy, and educational activities at all levels of our union. We are seeking a Research Analyst who can handle a wide range of responsibilities and to support the members and staff of our union.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Researching and writing employer profiles and industry overviews
- Preparing materials, reports and presentations for use in organizing, bargaining, and training
- Designing, analyzing, and maintaining membership surveys
- Managing internal databases, including helping to maintain the IAM contracts database
- Teaching classes at the IAM educational center
- Creating reports from proprietary and public databases
- Other duties as assigned
- Some travel is required
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in economics, finance, labor studies, communications, or other relevant field
- Experience with Microsoft Office software (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word)
- Ability to communicate complex issues in an understandable manner
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Must be able to:
- Work in groups and independently
- Meet tight deadlines
- Simultaneously work on multiple projects
- Work well with people with diverse backgrounds and opinions
- Be creative
- Learn new skills
- Knowledge of key union activities such as collective bargaining and organizing is a plus
- Public speaking and/or teaching experience is a plus
Job is based at the IAM headquarters in Upper Marlboro, Maryland (Washington, D.C. metropolitan area).
This is a bargaining unit position starting at $113,592.61 per year, with automatic step increases and an excellent, comprehensive benefit package including fully employer paid family health care and a generous, fully employer paid defined benefit pension plan.
