Position – Lead Campaigner in USW Strategic Campaigns department
Location - Pittsburgh, Pa. based at the USW International headquarters with frequent travel
Largest industrial Union in North America seeks experienced and creative campaigner to lead strategic corporate campaigns across a range of sectors.
The USW Strategic Campaigns department is responsible for developing and coordinating programs that build membership solidarity and power for collective bargaining. The campaigns vary – from small, local union-driven contract campaigns to heavily resourced, nationwide corporate campaigns. Upcoming campaigns will include national bargaining in the glass, steel, oil and rubber sectors as well as work in healthcare, higher education and manufacturing.
This position involves:
- Working with union leaders, staff and rank-and-file members to plan and coordinate successful contract campaigns that build membership solidarity and win fair labor contracts
- Implementing creative campaign strategies and tactics responsive to a variety of situations from tough bargaining at single plant to high-profile, national pattern and master contract campaigns impacting thousands of members at multiple sites
- Leading in-person, full-day and multi-day trainings with union members in various settings
- Developing training programs and educational materials for union members
- Planning and implementing creative and effective actions
- Conducting and analyzing leverage research
- Writing campaign materials, including corporate communications, campaign updates, research reports and flyers
- Preparing Local Unions for potential labor disputes and providing on-the-ground support during strikes and lockouts
- Mentoring and leading campaign teams
- Coordinating with other USW staff and departments, including bargainers, servicing reps, communications and organizing departments
Qualifications:
- At least 7 years of experience in the labor movement or similar including experience leading contract campaigns
- Experience developing and leading trainings and educational programs
- Ability to write effective campaign materials quickly
- Ability to conduct, analyze and report on corporate leverage research
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with union leadership, staff and rank-and-file members
- Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, think ahead and meet deadlines
- Willingness to learn, take direction and work collaboratively in teams
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and work in a fast-paced environment
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Willingness to work long, irregular hours when needed, including weekends and evenings
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and similar tools, such as Google Drive
- Valid driver’s license
- Frequent travel required across the U.S. and occasionally Canada
- Proficiency in another language, particularly Spanish or French, a plus

Salary - Salary range is $74,000-$113,000 with placement on the range commensurate with experience. This is a bargaining unit position. Generous benefits provided by the employer including healthcare, dental, vision and retirement benefits.
