Bricklayers & Trowel Trades International Pension Fund (IPF) is currently hiring in the Washington, DC area for the position of Pre-Retirement Services Team Leader!
The IPF was founded in 1972 and is a defined benefit plan covering 92% of members of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC) throughout the U.S.; ensure the retirement security of more than 26,00 U.S. pensioners and beneficiaries. The IPF also provides benefits to over 900 pension and beneficiaries under the IPF-Canada Plan.
The Fund also offers the BAC Save Retirement Savings Plan which offers supplemental security for members consisting of both an Annuity and 401K Plan. Both the BAC Save Annuity and 401(k) Plans have proven track records of assisting members bridging gaps in their finances and improving living standards. Building upon its core mission of ensuring a secure, dignified retirement for skilled Union masonry craftworkers, the IPF strives to deploy the latest technology to administer it’s Plans and adheres to solid investment practices to protect Fund assets. Our participants are the most highly skilled trowel trades craftworkers across the United States and Canada including bricklayers, stone and marble masons, cement masons, plasterers, tile setters, terrazzo and mosaic workers, and pointers/cleaners/caulkers.
The Position:
IPF is seeking a Pre-Retirement Services Team Leader to manage and monitor the email group for pension applications, oversee training, process pre-estimates via email and hand delivered mail, as well as generating letters stating to calculated benefits.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage and monitor the Team Group e-mail pensionestimate@ipfweb.org
- Receives first line in IPF telephone calls.
- Oversee training of first line personnel in office work phone etiquette, procedures relating to first contact, PII Information
- Directs calls from participants, their representatives, and local union offices to the appropriate department/person via the group e-mail.
- Assist in responding to participants and local union office representatives’ inquiries courteously and effectively, communicating clear and accurate details of benefits.
- Oversee data input/update training to first line personnel into RAS.
- Oversee the scanning and upload all IPF and RSP award letters onto the BACWORKS portal.
- Process pre-estimate requests and send out applications via multiple methods i.e. mail/e-mail, etc. This entails, analyzing, researching, and verifying all information received as well as all information in house.
- Compose original letters as required and calculating estimated benefits under the rules and regulations of the US – IPF Pension Plan. Making sure they are coded, recorded, and set for imaging in the file systems.
- Manage and monitor the year over year mailings, i.e. preparing a report each year, then the letter/form, then the actual task of mailing.
- Monitor the IPF bacbenefits.org website – for updates and/or additional communications, as needed.
- Assist with creating Standard Operating Procedures and staff training (as needed).
- Provided an overall report of the statistics of dept, what is the volume of calls, what is the volume of e-mails, how many letters went out, list of tasks complete, etc.
- Provides support for the other departments.
- Performs all other duties/projects as assigned by other office executives.
Skills & Other Requirements:
- At least 3 years of supervisory experience; knowledge of Union and Pension environments are highly preferred.
- Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation a plus
- Knowledge of computer data processing programs and network-based software packages.
- Knowledge of ERISA and how it applies to multi-employer plans.
- Ability to read, understand and apply the Rules and Regulations of the IPF, IPF-Canada, RSP and merged local Plans accurately to determine eligibility for benefits.
- The ability to organized and accomplish assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
- Ability to assume responsibility for both accuracy and completeness of work assignments.
- Experience working with large databases.
- Ability to communicate complex issues both orally and in writing to a range of interested parties including plan participants and beneficiaries.

Salary Range: $80,000 – $85,000
Schedule: Monday to Friday
