Position Description:
The Accounting Clerk I is responsible for executing accounting clerical duties that include filing, data entry, and routine reconciliation and analyses for the Accounting Department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Posts daily receipts and receipt memos for various bank accounts (excluding The U.S. & Canadian Unappropriated General Funds, Pension, 401K, and Sick Benefit funds).
  • Maintains and purges files for accounts payable, per capita, and miscellaneous receipts daily in compliance with the UFCW Official Records Retention Schedule and Accounting Department standards. Retrieves files for auditors and staff, as needed.
  • Prepares bank deposits using remote scanner. Generates daily deposit report and scans daily deposit report into SharePoint.
  • Assists with destroying monthly deposit reports and checks after month closing.
  • Run/print & provide monthly delinquency report to the Secretary Treasurer.
  • Fulfill local requests for ABC reporting supplies.
  • Prints, prepares and mails monthly per capita invoices, statements of account, loan statements and supplemental billings to local unions and councils.
  • Prints monthly per capita delinquency letters, secures postage, delivers to post office for mailing.
  • Assists with Check request and EFT requests through CRS for monthly District Council transfers.
  • Verify and prepares monthly transfer of 4% pension transfer of funds contributions.
  • Complete audit confirmations and notify other parties of the billing run that relates to per capita accounts.
  • Create, maintain and purge confidential UFCW records and financial information, which includes per capita receipt, miscellaneous receipt, and accounts payable filing in the accounting department file room.
  • Provides back-up for group members as needed.
  • Maintains confidentiality of UFCW records and financial information.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience:
Minimum of two years of bookkeeping or accounting experience required. Familiarity with the facets of Microsoft SL or similar complex accounting system. Experience in using spreadsheet software.    

Computer/Software Skills:
Ability to navigate through the UFCW database systems in order to retrieve, update and verify information. Proficiency in the use of a calculator and other standard office machines. Ability to prepare documents using spreadsheet applications.

Keyboarding Skills:
Input of 25 words per minute.

Communication Skills:
Ability to comprehend rules, policies, and procedures, and the ability to communicate effectively with other departments, vendors and field staff. Ability to compose routine correspondence.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required:

  • Ability to accurately perform a variety of tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented, and confidential environment.
  • Demonstrated excellent analytical and mathematical ability.
  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive UFCW records and financial information.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, and percentages.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Attendance:
Attendance will be a determining consideration in all cases where two or more applicants have equal ability, qualifications and/or reliability.

Job Demands:
Pace of work is moderate and even. Duties are somewhat diverse. Deadlines are common but generally predictable.

Working Conditions:
The work is performed in a normal office environment. The noise level is usually moderate.

Physical Demands:
The position involves, but is not limited to, written and oral communications skills, use of a computer keyboard, close vision, sitting for long periods, stooping, bending, and reaching.

Compensation:
Salary Range: $46,377 - $52,441
