Communications Specialist

The Clark County Education Association (CCEA) is seeking a Communications Specialist to provide leadership in communications on all media channels and provide support to our policy advocacy for the Union of teaching professionals and public education in the fifth largest school district in the United States. The Communications Specialist will be responsible for carrying CCEA’s messages primarily to our membership, and to the public through various media and communications outlets. This position will also be the primary contact person with the media.
An applicant must demonstrate exceptional writing and editing skills in content development as well as innovative message formatting for various target audiences. CCEA is a high performance work center and the successful applicant must demonstrate the ability to handle multiple assignments meeting quality standard and specific deadlines.

Association Overview
Clark County Education Association is the largest independent union in the U.S. representing over 18,800 licensed professionals in 370 schools the fifth largest school district in the country.
CCEA is currently in the third phase of its multi-year Strategic Horizon campaign. The campaign requires optimum integration with the communications department. Applicants with experience in being part of ballot initiatives are encouraged to apply.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
The Communications Specialist will work directly with the Executive Director as well as other senior department heads to strategize, develop, and produce communications on all media channels:
Communications
- Communication Plans:
- Working with the Executive Director develop six month communication plans that support CCEA goals and objectives; expanding CCEA communications both internally and externally.
- Member Engagement:
- Responsible for developing all messaging both content and format for member engagement, i.e. communications, leaflets, flier, website, newsletters, blogs, email messages, text messages, etc.
- Generate content and maintain CCEA websites.
- Manage all content and engagement on CCEA social media outlets, i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and other outlets as needed.
- Establish and build relationships with key member leaders to use to develop communications.
- Manage and produce the CCEA podcast channels.
- Lead communication/digital engagement to amplify CCEA’s work and campaigns through aggressive communications outreach, including print, and digital media, and online engagement through social media.
- Media Work:
- Draft and write press releases, talking points, op-eds, media advisories, and bi-weekly newsletters.
- Plan and strategically organize press conferences.
- Oversee distribution of targeted e-blasts and communications.
- Monitor press coverage about CCEA, its members and issues impacting CCEA, public education, or educators, both locally and nationally.
- Actively pitch stories to reports to expand press coverage of CCEA and its work in collaboration with the Executive Director and/or designee.
- Establish relationships with key reporters and producers.
- Communication Work with Policy and Politics:
- Promote CCEA events and campaigns.
- Draft, edit, and produce communications that support CCEA’s policy and political strategy under the direction of the Executive Director and Political Director or designee.
- Develop strong relations with policy leaders, legislators, government agencies, including their staff, as well as other educational and business community stakeholders, as well as other union labor partners.
- Participate in policy and education meetings for the purposes of developing and drafting necessary communications.
- Data Management and Analytics:
- Experience in utilizing data to produce analytics regarding communication tools in real time.
- Integrating communication data with CCEA’s main data management and analytic programs.
Essential Qualifications and Experiences
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, political science, or other related field required.
- A successful candidate will be an excellent writer, have a strong attention to detail, thrive at multitasking.
- A successful candidate will use creative and effective communication tools and formatting to deliver communications.
- Highly creative with experience in identifying target audiences and devising digital campaigns that engage, inform and motivate.
- Proven experience placing media stories, and increasing followers and engagement in social media platforms.
- InDesign and other design software knowledge and experience.
- Photoshop knowledge and experience.
- Creative in using new media to communicate CCEA priorities, including experience producing infographics.
- Self starter who is able to self manage with input from other staff.
- Excellent project management skills, demonstrated experience meeting tight deadlines and providing fast turn-around of quality products and working in a high pressure environment.
- Strong organizational skills
