Director of Human Resources

Based in California
(Principal office in Los Angeles. Options for home base throughout CA.)

 

SEIU Local 2015 is seeking a transformational, strategic, change agent to build leadership and achieve power for its 450,000 home health care and nursing home worker members. The Director of HR is a pivotal leader who will motivate, empower and engage the workforce to perform in ways that create meaningful change and shapes the organization’s future success.

Duties/ Responsibilities:
Talent Acquisition & Management that builds the organization

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate culture building initiatives that drive the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of staff.
  • Implement and lead manager/staff competency training that supports effective organizing and advocating for members.
  • Provide support and guidance to managers that build their mentoring skills to provide effective, inspiring feedback to staff.
  • Serve as the pivotal strategic partner of the senior management team, to advise regarding the impact of long-range planning, new programs/strategies and regulatory action.
  • Collaborate with department heads to develop and implement staffing strategies and programs that embrace diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging across the organization.

Training & Leadership

  • Train and support management staff, including department directors, in implementing labor management practices consistent with organizational mission goals and values.
  • Assesses training needs for managers and staff.
  • Work with senior management to develop and deliver onboarding and training materials to ensure employees understand their job responsibilities.
  • Assist the Executive Director in developing effective performance management systems.
  • Train managers in evaluating staff performance and developing performance improvement plans.

Department Leadership

  • Directs and develops the three person HR department
  • Interacts with Officers and the Executive Board

General

  • Ensures all HR policies are up to date, maintained, applied consistently, and in compliance with state, local and federal regulations.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes and innovative technologies in human resources, and employment law and applies this knowledge to communicate changes to senior management.
  • Leads managers in understanding and implementing organization policies, building and maintaining a supportive and inspiring workplace culture.
  • Works with senior management and leadership to address employee issues and conflicts, and collective bargaining with the staff union.

Proven ability to assess the existing culture, identify needs/areas of improvement and positively influence others through clear communication, and self-modeling behaviors that gain support for the change. Trustworthy and approachable.
  • Interpersonal—Demonstrated competence in verbal and nonverbal communication, conflict management, negotiation, listening and being flexible and positive.

Required Values, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3 – 5 years experience in HR leadership or related field.
  • Competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Commitment to enforcing union values.
  • Demonstrated ability to help staff succeed by setting clear goals, providing relevant training, positive coaching and encouragement.
  • Collective bargaining experience in a unionized environment, strongly desired.
  • SHRM Certified Professional/SHRM Senior Certified Professional Certificate, a plus.

Salary range: $131,524.58 - $141,637.58 commensurate with experience, and an excellent benefits package.
