Director of Legislative and Political Affairs

The National Association of Letter Carriers, an AFL-CIO affiliated union, representing 290,000 active and retired letter carriers is seeking a Director of Legislative and Political Affairs. The position is based in-person in Washington, D.C.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented self-starter and collaborator with excellent communications, organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills. In addition, the candidate must have effective communication and interpersonal skills and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
The position will be involved in various aspects of the union’s legislative and political agenda, including monitoring Congress and priority legislation, attending hearings, briefings and stakeholder meetings, Capitol Hill outreach programs, development of written materials, day-to-day management of legislative and political activities, development of legislative priorities, policy, and Capitol Hill-related activity, PAC event and spending coordination. The position will report to the Chief of Staff and work with various internal and external staff.
Position Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, or equivalent experience;
- Five to-seven years experience with labor, non-profit or Capitol Hill;
- The ability to perform multiple tasks effectively under tight deadlines;
- Effective written and verbal communication skills; and
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and flexibility a must;
- Bipartisan experience strongly preferred.
