Organizing Director
Covering the Midwest and Rockies Regions
The Chicago and Midwest Regional Joint Board, Workers United seeks an Organizing Director who is motivated, strategic, and passionate about social justice and empowering workers through union representation.
Position Summary:
The Union Organizing Director will lead organizing efforts to recruit and engage new members in the Midwest and Rockies regions. This position is responsible for hiring and managing a small team of organizers, developing and implementing strategies to enhance union membership, and ensuring effective coordination with Union officials.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee a team of organizers to effectively conduct membership drives and outreach initiatives.
- Develop and implement strategic plans to organize new members and strengthen the union.
- Collaborate with Union officials to align organizing efforts meeting the union’s goals and objectives.
- Provide training, mentorship, and support to organizers and member-organizers to build their skills and capacity.
- Conduct outreach and engagement with targeted communities, including workers in various industries.
- Monitor and evaluate organizing campaigns, adjusting strategies as necessary to maximize effectiveness.
- Maintain accurate records of organizing efforts and metrics to report progress as directed.
- Foster relationships with community organizations, worker advocacy groups, and other relevant stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in an organizing director role or at least 3 years as a lead organizer in a labor union environment.
- Must be able to travel
- Valid Driver’s license and personal reliable transportation
- Demonstrated knowledge of labor laws, organizing principles, and union structures.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
- Effective Time Management, including prioritizing and managing tasks: developing and ensuring accountability to work plans and policies.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with experience in public speaking and coalition-building.
- Ability to demonstrate confidentiality and appropriate discretion
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by organizing activities.
- Passion for social justice and worker rights.
- Conversational Spanish is a plus
